I have encountered a perplexing issue with the interior courtesy lights on a 1964 DeVille convertible.  With the engine off, the interior courtesy lights turn off and on by alternately depressing and releasing the door jamb switches.  The interior courtesy light will also turn on by rotating the dash light switch to the far left, past the detent, and then off again after rotating the light switch to the right.

Now the problem:  With the engine running, and doors closed, all the interior courtesy lights turn on, and stay on, until the ignition is turned off.  What could be causing this? The FSM does not have electrical schematics for this.  The chassis wiring diagrams provided stop at the connectors for the body wiring, and go no further.

It may be of some help in diagnosing this issue to consider the following:

The seats, interior door panels, kick panels, and interior rear quarter trim, were removed for the installation of new carpet, underlayment and pad, and then put back in. While in the trim shop, both doors may have been open to their full open position.  Is there a potential problem in the dreaded driver's door wiring conduit?  Any insight is much appreciated.

There is a small switch at the back of the bench seat in a 64 convertible
So the people in the rear can turn on the courtesy lights to exit the car
I have sometimes hit that switch when wiping down my interior and wondering whats going on with the interior lights
So check to see if that could be the issue
The interior mechanic could have easily hit the switch

Starter Solenoid replacement-how difficult? Where to buy?

Posted by Norman Silverman on August 20, 2019 at 8:24pm 8 Comments

Hello All.

I believe the starter solenoid has gone bad in my 64 DeVille. When I turn the key, often all I get is a click, then if I try a few times again the starter turns perfectly. All battery cables are on tight and the battery is good. So, I believe this problem is the solenoid. Where do I buy the right solenoid and is it necessary to remove the starter in order to swap it out? …

Upper A Arm Rubber Bumpers

Posted by Gene McIlroy on August 12, 2019 at 1:30pm 3 Comments

I have found a very good replacement part for the Upper A Arm Bumpers.  The top part is identical to the originals the bottom can be used as is or after a few minutes with a belt sander can be ground to the V shape as the originals were.  The replacement bumpers are for a 2001 to 2005 S10 Sanoma or Blazer.  Part number is on the box in the photos.  First photo is the box next to the box is the S10 part and an original.  Next photo shows my sanded down part next to an original.…
