My AC blower has been making a little noise on and off. I thought, it might have been a bit of leaf litter in there until today.

I think I have a bearing in the blower motor going to lunch. I'll have a read up on the good book tonight for the removal instructions etc.

Anything I should be aware of before I start ripping out stuff and throwing it all on the floor. LOL :-)

I got a new blower motor off of rockauto.com cheap. There are two types, vented and non vented listed. I got a vented since that's what was on my car. Perfect march if I remember correctly. If you need to go deeper into the system there is a removable panel located in the right fender well behind the tire. Take it out and the lower air plenum bolts are easier to access.

Of course it's been soooooooo long that I've actually did anything to my caddy I may have forgotten more than no remember.

thanks for tip mate.

Found my blower was packed with dead mice. Wish I had taken a picture. Looked like a ladies’ fur hand muff! However once cleaned and oiled it worked just fine.

A lot to be said for refurbishing original parts when possible. New replacements may be of lesser quality and don’t always fit.

There are shops that  can rebuild/rewind small electric motors as I found with the convertible top motor.  The biggest issue is the time to remove and reinstall.

Look at the sticker on that blower motor. Does that look like the sticker of poor quality and an I'll fitting piece? LMARSEO. I think it's a VDO motor.

This picture is so sexy !

While your in there take the plenum off and put in new black closed cell foam strips to seal it all up. The old sealant is long gone and dried up. This will help keep the hot air out and the cold air in the car. I used the window and door stuff 1/8 to 3/16 thick is good. Dont get open cell foam as it holds water.

what is the plenum ?

Plenum, you were looking at part of it. The air ducts are plenums like side cutters are also called dikes! not to be confused with phlenum ;o

ple·num
[ˈplenəm, ˈplēnəm]

NOUN
plenums (plural noun)
an assembly of all the members of a group or committee.
"the seventh plenum of the Communist Party central committee"
physics
a space completely filled with matter, or the whole of space so regarded.
"so long as things move simultaneously into each other's places, motion is possible in a plenum"
an enclosed chamber where a treated substance collects for distribution, as heated or conditioned air through a ventilation system.

I replaced mine a couple years ago. If I remember it wasn't to difficult, as long as you don't mine working upside down to remove the 4 bolts holding it on.

Thanks guys, gunna have a lash at it today.

OK, we're making progress.

I found, if I stood on my head, tied my left arm behind my back, stuck my tongue until it nearly touched my nose,  I could just get enough room to fit my chubby body in there and get the blower motor out.

Its a "Made in China" unit from Napa that doesn't look too old. The bearings are fine.

Its the actual fan itself. It looks like a mini washing machine tub with a locating boss in the centre. The location boss has come loose from the fan itself. I'm going to have a go at securing it again by knurling the two back together until they become tight again.

If that doesn't work, I know Jason or Russ will have one I can get.

I just don't want to have the Air Cond out of action for two weeks. I know most of the USA is freezing its nuts off, but its the middle of summer here.

Wish me luck. If you hear an swearing off in the distance with an Aussie accent....it'll be me.

Stuck at two red (dash) lights!

Posted by Jeff Kinzler on November 3, 2019 at 10:00pm 9 Comments

I hope someone can help solve these two electrical problems that appeared one after the other.

By way of background: The car, a '64 Eldorado has very limited use. It was at a restoration shop for 15 months until last January-  that supposedly did a bunch of wiring repairs including rebuilding the gas gauge that still hasn't worked properly, and the clock that hasn't worked, and re-soldering the broken wires in the drive door. All window and seat controls appear to be…

Dash removal

Posted by Jake Mickley on October 9, 2019 at 12:06am 9 Comments

Hello everyone,

On a 63 CDV, if a guy wanted to remove the entire dash to get all the metal painted, and do some other things behind there, how would he go about doing that?  I checked here and the shop manual, but can't find a complete guide.

As always, and help or direction is appreciated.  Thanks!

Introducing myself

Posted by Gary Marchand on October 7, 2019 at 9:32pm 8 Comments

Thanks for letting me join the club.  Picked up this ‘64 Coupe Deville a few months ago out of Beverly MA, the car has few stickers on it from various Cadillac clubs, didn’t know if anyone might recognize it from it’s “Glory days.” Everything seems pretty healthy except for the body and some very Mickey Mouse repairs, was wondering if anyone had any leads on…
