We are reconstructing the front split seat, with armrest, for our 64 convertible. We are starting with the metal frame/springs. Anyone have photos/details on the foam /cushion material to get a good shape etc as the base for the new upholstery? Also reconstructing the rear seats as well so any info for them would be helpful as well.

We have the actual finish upholstery being made now.

Having the switches on the side of the seat instead of the door will shorten the distance current will have to travel. It will therefore reduce the risk of shortage. I have the 6-way seat in my Series 62. Have no issues or problems putting down my left hand and adjust. On my -66 DeVille Conv. the controls was also on the side of the seat. I Believe they did have a reason to move away from cables constantly being "bended" when open and closing doors. 

Its a lot of current to operate the front seat. Rerouting via the door is not recommended.

Power for the seat motor is fed through the large red power feed wire from under the dash direct to the motor for both style seat switches. You have a low current "switch" circuit from the seat switch that activates the relay to close the "power" circuit feed to the seat motor, or activate the appropriate transmission solenoids. Just wanted to point that out.  I will also note that I have also seen several examples where the wiring harness for the Series 62 seat, which is confined over the seat rail on LH side of seat, work lose and get caught up in the LH seat rails and break and short, so it is not like there is no risk for failure on a Series 62.
Personally, I would leave the seat setup the way it is, but you indicated you already have the door panel with the seat in the door panel, so I'm just saying you will need the other harness if you do go that route. Also, if you need the Series 62 harness I have those in nice condition for $35.  You will probably also want a lower LH trim without the hole for the seat switch if you go this route... which I have... and I assume you have the correct switch for the driver arm rest switch plate. 


Will see if we can get the existing seat out of the car and look for the wiring . If I do not find it I will take you up on the harness you spoke of.

The car we have was made with the six way seat option -- so I suspect I may find the wire loom in the door and running as you guys pointed out in the rigid body feed conduit under the sill plate.

To clarify I am working on a 64 deville convert that was originally  made with the 6 way seat option, it currently has the six way seat option working with the controls on the drivers side of the seat. The door panel and its controls are also to be replaced with the correct '64 controls and trim pieces.

I have purchased a correct seat , with the center armrest and the lower left trim without the hole for the seat switch-- to replace the incorrect seat that someone put in the car probably back when they made it look like the '63 that was in Scarface.

There is a post on this site by Maurice Lapoiinte, It was titled "My interior restorations, pitfalls and things I have learned.  His was a 63 Convertible but he posted a lot of pictures and would think that there would not be much difference between 63 and 64 seat upholstery bases.  I could search his page site and find it hopefully you can too.  Trying to search just by title did not get me anything so unless Jason can help you some other way just try to get to his site page,  It will definitely be worth your time I think.  Hope this helps.

still need a driveshaft

well thank you UPS for losing the driveshaft that Russ Austin shipped me. 

however i still need a rear driveshaft section for my 63. mine has a vibration due to the bushing inside of it. its a shame because the ball and sockets in the cardian joints are perfect but it has a woble on the balancing machine. so .  still need the rear section. anyone have a good one ? is there driveshaft alternatives to use ? i am really considering an LS swap and since im fighting the driveshaft search…

 So my 63 guide matic headlamps stay on low beam all the time. I have so far bypassed the system and everything works normal. I have been thru the trouble shooting in the manual but this is where the confusion begins.on my car when the power relay is powered I have low beam and when its not powered I have highbeam, this appears to be opposite what the diagnosis says should be correct.The wiring is all original and no wires have been mixed up.has anyone ever unplugged the 2 wire connector…

I hope someone can help solve these two electrical problems that appeared one after the other.

By way of background: The car, a '64 Eldorado has very limited use. It was at a restoration shop for 15 months until last January-  that supposedly did a bunch of wiring repairs including rebuilding the gas gauge that still hasn't worked properly, and the clock that hasn't worked, and re-soldering the broken wires in the drive door.
