Installing a rebuilt AC Delco alternator on my 64 coupe and noticed that the hole in the mounting lug that slides over the support bracket on the exhaust manifold is a bit larger making the fit a little more sloppy than the original. Is this just the way the new parts are if so will this be O.K. once everything is tightened up. I am trying not to overthink this but I also don't want a problem any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
I think you should return the alternator or you may have future issues with it moving ( shifting ) when it should not
The fit of the alternator to its mounting bolt should be a snug one with slight or no movement on its mount
Check the new replacement alternator for a slightly smaller hole as that WB correct
The alternator you now have came from a different car with a different size mount
If you can compare the old one to the new one at time of exchange that would help get you the right mounting hole size
