I have a huge problem my POWER SECTION of the ``Master-VAC Power Brake unit 9´´Diameter ´´ from Bendix is Broken and I can't open it to replace al the rubber parts did some of you have auch Power section already overhauled or a unit what have a much better condition as mine not totally rusty.
It is dangerous to open the power booster due to spring pressure
Look for Cardone Inc in the — Part Supplier — in the Header as they rebuild the part
The Delco power booster and master cylinder are more readily available than the Bendix unit at this point in time
There were two types Delco and Bendix used in our year cars
As long as you use the same brand for the brake booster and MC you will be ok
Now it is open but the spring power was not so powerful that it is dangerous but he is definitely rotten and not possible to rebuilt so i´m still searching an Bendix Power Brake Power Section.
A Bendix power booster has shown up from time to time on this site and repair shops so you understand availability these days
I myself have never tried to open one so just passing on what I have read over the years on here about the spring action
Good luck in your quest to find what you need
The CLC currently has a message string which may have some helpful information. The discussion concerns a 1968 booster but one of the posters did indicate that he rebuilt his 1964 booster. The string does mention various suppliers, delivery times, et cetera. HTH
Sorry to hear that it sounds like your booster unit is beyond repair due to rust issues because they are not difficult to rebuild. Yes, there is spring pressure inside, but as long as you keep some downward pressure on the unit while disassembling the two haves you're fine. The typical failure with these is the large rubber diaphragm inside. I did a replacement diaphragm on my '64 Bendix unit that went well and the entire process was done in an afternoon. I can't tell you where to find a replacement booster, but I'd be searching salvage yards too. Although the here as well as the CLC forums is a good place to put the word out. It may very well be someone has a unit stashed in the garage that you can then rebuild.
You are right my power booster is totally rusty from inside the spring is broken because she is rusty and also the outer cup have inside so much rust that if I use a screwdriver and scratch it becomes a hole soon, it makes no sense to repair it, luckily Bernd he is from our German Cadillac community have in his Cadillac a good condition AC Delco Booster and main brake cylinder what I can have but it is for me only for a while, I like to keep a car in complete original conditions that's why I still searching for the Bendix power booster hope that one of the guys or ladies from the community will offer me one.
Talk to Booster Dewey at Power Brake Booster Exchange. He was able to source me one and rebuilt it for a fair price. Very nice people to deal with. Highly recommend them. He may even be able to restore yours if it's not too far gone.
