Hi there, this is my first post here.
I'm working on a 1964 Sedan Deville that sat for a very long time (nearly 40 years!)
It still had its original gas. I've had to do some repairs to the engine, including replacing a bent pushrod, but right now it's running pretty well on a Q-jet from an Olds with an adapter plate so I can move it around. Actually, I put it together today and took it for its first ride on the road since 1976!
But my question is, has anyone here rebuilt a 4GC carburetor? I've looked all over the internet for days, and cannot find a procedure to adjust the float that matches this particular unit. Everything I have found pertains to round (puck shaped) floats, which are intuitive to measure- These floats are irregular rectangular floats.
I have found a little information from a Buick website, but it seems I can't make the adjustments the way they suggest, the floats simply can't move as far as they would need to, I'm going to wreck something.
I would greatly appreciate the help of anyone who has worked on one of these- I've got it 90% ready to go, and I'd love to get this carburetor back on the car.
The shop manual gives detailed instructions on how to rebuild the carb. You can find the 1964 Cadillac shop manual easily on ebay. Available in CD, reproduction books, of the original book.
I purchased the book on ebay, but it's not going to be here for about 10 days.
Hopefully someone might have actually done this job? I've rebuilt lots of Q jets, but this one is tricky with all of its floats..
I have the shop manual as PDF. Give me your e-mail and I will send it through "wetransfer".
(Only if you like and it is not against laws)
I would really appreciate that! I sent a private message/friend request- Aaron
In about 2 Minutes you get the whole manual.
