having a tough time finding a clutch fan that fits. Got the one from napa that they had listed for a 64 but the hub is to big (2.600), the hub on my original one is 2.400. I ordered one from rock auto, had a different part number but the hub on it is also 2.600. What are you guys doing for a fan clutch for an original 5 blade fan?
napa part is 271301 which crosses to a Hayden 2797
Been an issue with tail chasing results. If all else fails, call these folks. http://www.corvettestop.com/fan-clutch-restoration.html
My convertible with AC never came with a clutch fan ( own car since new )
I have a regular 5 blade fan and have never had any issue with engine temps and i am in Florida in 80 and 90 degree temp most times when taking my car out for the day
Just a heads up for another option
There is also a 7 blade regular fan available on some models in our years ( i think the limos )
Enjoy or your doing it Wrong !
The 7 bladed non-clutch fan and 5 bladed clutch fan were intermittently both used on the 1964 Cadillacs with AC. For the details check out this Help Page entry: Fans: Radiator Fans Used on 1963 and 1964 Cadillacs
I usually have both but just run out of them in the past few months but should bring more in at some point. If no one has the clutch (or the complete fan) and cannot find a good new replacement email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I have pulled on several clutch fans where there had been an aftermarket fan installed at some point, and most seem bigger than stock but do not recall any issues with the size.
Size doesn't matter, said the girl...
Its all about miles per hour.
Keeping the car running cool is a must !
Being Cool -is the hardest part ( Fonzi looking in the mirror comb in hand ---AAHHHHHHHHHHH !!! )
I used this part on my 1962. Hayden part # 2705. It’s the same part as the resale guys use.
There is an NOS one in the box on Ebay right now with the correct GM part numbers not mine bidding starts at $149
For now I put one from my parts car on it. Not leaking yet but suspect that it will eventually. Thanks for the replies.
I've found the original fan clutches usually don't go bad or leak. The one on my 64 CDV is an original used one.. just cleaned up, but works perfect and does not leak and have been selling good used ones for over 20 years. Once in a while I have pulled in a parts car where they might be leaking or gone bad but generally they hold up well. Perhaps in extreme cold conditions the seals break.. just not sure, but I have had good luck with the originals. Russ, has pulled in over a dozen parts cars so maybe he has had a different experience and can chime in.
Same info as Jason.
