Our stock fuel pumps are rated 5 1/4 to 6 1/2 psi, which is pretty standard and these Carters are built for and have been installed on huge numbers of these old GM cars with GM fuel pumps over the last 1/4 century so fuel pump would not be your problem and likely something not right up in the carb float.

Did you have any issue with fuel pressure being too high? I bought a new 1406 and it’s flooding so bad the engine won’t even start. I’m wondering if the stock fuel pump pressure is too high. I using this carb with a 365.

- I used the gaskets that cam with the 1406 and spacer. I don't recall having to buy any extra gaskets.
- I put gasket on top of metal plate. Note I used the thick intake gasket ... not the thin metal ones. Mine has been sealed for 10+ years with the thick gasket.

I'm acquiring all of the parts needed to install a 1406 and have two quick questions.

First, which gaskets are used with the Trans-Dapt TRD-2446 spacer? I assume you want ones that match the spacer as closely as possible.

Second, when installing the shims to block the center exhaust port, do you put the intake manifold gaskets over the shims and torque everything down? The extra thickness of the shims seems to make things a little uneven. I have ordered the thicker material gaskets as you mentioned. Will these allow everything to seal?

I started off byblocking the front channel, and ends of the internal choke tube by tapping threads and screwing bolts into them and cutting off and removing the heat riser. It still was getting 305+ degree at center of intake from bypass exhaust gas across the center channel so I later blocked at the cylinder head to intake center port. If you block at the center port there is no need to block the other 4 holes in the intake.

With this thread I tried to show what I ended up with which was
1) blocking exhaust at cylinder head to intake. No need to modify they Intake other than either beveling out or fully porting to accomodate the 1411. (not needed with the 1406)
2) using a carb spacer that Russ Austin provides instead of the flimsy thing I started with
3) porting the front primaries to better match the diameter of the 1411 all the way thru instead of just beveling out the primaries with a grinding tool so the butterflies would have clearance.
