Here is what they look like to me... best thing is just hold them up to components you have not found the gasket for. I don't think anyone ever had to name the gaskets for me ... just matched top components.

Here is what they look like from numbered picture below:

1. Carb to air cleaner
2. Cylinder head water outlet pipe to cylinder head (have 2, one on each side, not sure why yo have 4 here)
3. Front engine (timing) cover seal
4. PCV Vent Tube Canisters (at back of engine on top of valley pan)
5. Thermostate housing cover
6. distributor
7. Looks like the later model year oil pump cover gasket. Often included in these rebuild kits... not used.
8. Looks like oil seal umbrellas. I don't think they are used on our engines but I did not use these in my rebuild kit as I did not rebuild the heads when I rebuilt my engine. I had them previously rebuilt by a machine shop. Someone can chime in on these that have rebuilt their heads recently. I think they are or can be used as basically a cover over the stem and seal. Again... guessing on thhis one.

Oh, thanks,   i forgot about the air cleaner.  Just never thought of itvas a gasket seal, but makes sense

  1. Pvc,,,now i remeber that one

3,,,are you reffering to the one were the crankshatft comes through, behind the harmonic b as lancer?   This one is a little smaller than that.  I hv pressed in the one that fits snugly therr.  Am i missing one?

5.....check..

6,,,   check.

I hv the oil pump fitted.

I just didnt remember seeing some of these.

My wotking conditiinsxarent ideal, i hv parts in two shops,  a friend has allowed me to work in his big shop,  and i did my painting in another, so i am a little scattered, but things are slowly coming together.  Thanks for the info.

On another subjuct, do we use 1he 180 thermostat or the higher temp one in these engines.  Mine has ac, if it matters

3- not sure if not front engine seal. Maybe trans. It does look small.
Thermostat- 180 is correct.

I dnt rember them in the dismantle..i wonder if there is a photo somewere.  I didnt see one in book

So you slide those rubber cap cover over the stem BEFORE you put the oil o ring and keepers on?  And they are under the spring?

Still working on hb.

What are you working on with the Harmonic Balancer? I thought you had posted a picture with it pushed back on the rebuilt engine on another thread?

I put installer bk on, and got maybe a quarter turn or less.  Old paint line on hb shaft seems to line up were it had been previous.

Removed installer, put in big 9.16 bolt to go to 125 lb.  Had to enlist big boy to hold pulley from pistons moving in cylinder.  Hvnt got to 125.  Cnt stop the spin to get that much force.

If the balancer had stopped moving you are probably fine, especially if it is lined up with timing block. The 125 ft lb torque is to ensure it is pushed on all the way. The bolt comes back out anyway. If you want to get it to 125 ft lb and stop crank from turning and oil pan is off wedge a board, or something soft but rigid between one of the rotating crank counter balance weighs, and torque. The shop manual talks about using compressed air in a cylinder on the compression stroke. Never tried that method. Pretty sure I just wedged something soft against the crank to stop it from turning long enough to torque bolt then back in then back out.

That crossed my mind, but wasnt sure if that could knock some thing out of wack.   Thanks

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
