I came -- i saw -- i conquered --( Julius Caesar ) And if it works like it should after the repair --thats even better ( the best )
There ia a very great reward doing it right yourself and jumping into the drivers seat --saving all that money and BS you are bound to get working witb shop mechanic

Thank you Tony. I have learned a lot in the 15 years I've had Evelyn.

The biggest lesson is to ask for help, and if I get stuck to give it some time and more often than not the answer will come.

When in doubt, try, try again and of course spend lots more money.  Seems to be the solution for nearly every Cadillac problem I've had.

I want to be the guy holding the flag, he seems to be the only one actually enjoying the ride!

I do think the overall expense of keeping an older car running well is a lot less than the monthly payments for many newer cars
Especially doing the repairs yourself which is easier to do on the older cars that were more driveway hobby gear head friendly
I my case using the car on a very limited basis ( convertible -only on the best weather days ) keeps my expense to an absolute minimum and Fun to a maximum !!
The up side is --the car is always in tip top condition -- Top down --turn key and Go
I put an average of about 600 miles a year on the car ( a total BLAST )
The other great thing is the car -can just sit in the garage --if necessary at times when money got tight in the years of raising the family until your financial situation turns around
It cost nothing a month --to just have it sit in the garage -until you can fix what it might need
Just having it in the garage for any reason -- will make you COOLER - than you were before the purchase
The quality of the materials used to build these cars as a rule has allowed them to hold up --big time for the long haul --keeping my repair costs down to a minimum for the 40 years the car is in my possession ( dad had it for the first 14 - when new - i was racing a Chevy 409 ) )
One of the --very best cars a true car guy could own --as all you Antique Classic Cadillac already know

Oh I hear ya Tony, I drive only '57-66 GM cars because I can do all the work myself, the parts are readily available and usually cheap. 

I have a '61 Biscayne that is very much like our year Cads, no reproduction body panels currently available and no other year Chevy will work.  When I hit a deer with it last month I had to scour the internet and Chevy club classifieds in order to find two sub-par front fenders that need about 10 hours of recon work to be good enough to install.  They still cost $1000 apiece and were the only ones I could find after hours of searching. 

So, yes I love the old car hobby. It is actually a lifestyle for me as a daily driver but sadly we are at the mercy of those who hold the parts to keep 'em going.  Thank God for Russ and Jason who are the very best at what they do, very honest and keep prices in check!

Hi every one,

After a long time rebuilding my 63 convertible, i finaly get on the road.

A question if anyone can help me. Can somebody tell me the lenght of the motor oil stick.

the cap was probably broken and welded by the old owner. but i m not sure it's in the right place

i put the right amount of oil in motor, but for the weekly maintenance i would like to do two mark "full and add oil"

So i need the lenght from de cap to the two mark

Offering this newly re-chromed 1963 Cadillac front center impact bar for sale, $100 plus whatever it costs to ship it from Detroit to your location.  

The unit fits perfect on driver's side but does not sit flush on passenger side.  I am told someone needs to take a wooden block and hammer and bang the passenger side lower corner in to make it fit right.  If you know how to do this stuff, this is the piece for you.

I am installing front seat belts in 63 coupe the holes were already in floor but I do not know how to route inner belts it appears they go through seat in middle?did not find how to remove center armrest on seat  are openings there or do you cut into seat? any help or pictures would be great dan
