I would like to buy new single exhaust system. And I don't now if I should buy with resonator or without. What are pros and cons if somebody can let me know. Is it really less noise inside the car if you have exhaust with resonator and I read that you lose a bit power without.

The first part of the stock exhaust system in these year cars and I have had a few  —-to rust out from my own experience would be the resonator so not recommended by me 

The resonator is not as well made and sturdy as the stock muffler so I eliminated it for that reason in my 64’s last exhaust replacement 

My own exhaust has stayed good for 35 years by being sure every time you start the car you let it run for a half hour to get all the moisture in the system from the block to the end of the tailpipe out of the pipes as they rust from the inside out 

The additional noise without the muffler is minimal as I  do like  a very quite Cadillacs myself 

I think when the time comes the addition of a glass pack muffler where the resonator would go might quite the system down just a bit  more than no resonator and they are a very durable muffler design 

So the very long slim stock muffler and a glass pack might be something I will consider over just the stock big muffler I am currently using but the car my car is quite without the resonator 

I have  the stock single exhaust myself 


I do not think you will notice any difference in power output 

USA Auto parts in the Part Suppliers — in the header should get you correct parts to your door but  I have not used them since 2006 for a damaged muffler from shipping the car 


I t all depends on what you want the exh system to do. If you want the Cadillac quality sound, which is whisper quiet and no exh burble, then you need a resonator. 

The resonator rusts out earlier because it is the last to get to operating temps to burn off the water produced from the combustion engine. It takes a while to heat up because the resonator is at the very end of the exh.  Water stays in the resonator from short trips and starts the rust process.  Even so, it takes years to rust out a resonator, so I say run the resonator and be happy.

A stainless steel system with a resonator will both be quite and last longer. Most likely longer than the car itself.

Imagine fitting a catalysator as well? Geting away from smelly exhaust and smog test should be a walk in the park. This would require rebuilt cylinder heads and running on leadfree.

Help on Removal of rear seatback on 64 convertible

I'm trying to remove the rear seatback on my 1964 deville conv.  The only help on this site that I can find is the following:

The seatback, its bright stainless trim, and the speaker grille are removed as an assembly.  The seat back hangs on two hooks near the top, and is retained to the body by two bolts and washers near the floor, one on the right side, one on the left.Once these fasteners are removed, lift the seat back upward and free it from the hooks

Are the front and rear seat frames the same for 63/64 Coupes and Convertibles because Original parts group  makes reproduction seat covers for 1963 only and and i prefer the 1963 seat pattern so with that being said does anyone have information regarding this thanks.
