Here is a little engine breather/oil filler cap trick. Before you throw out old socks, cut the top off them and use them to keep the oil residue from building up under your hood by placing them over the breather cap. I keep a bunch in my trunk but had just run out so in making some more, thought I would share the trick with you. When you get to a show, take them off if you like.

I’ve used landscape fabric and a zip tie.

Greta idea, think I'll use the wifes, as I just bought new socks.

Perfect!

I feel like we are on the old - Laugh IN - TV show

Sock it the - Oil Breather

Couldn’t help  but keep the crankcase ventilation system a bit cleaner than it might otherwise be

Clean oil is a good thing always

Reminds me not a bad idea to give the oil breather cap a  good cleaning

If your oil cap already has a kind of filter ( metal mesh ) in it by putting an additional filter ( the sock ) over the second filter you would be reducing the air flow into the crankcase that the carbs suction is now working harder to be drawing the oil vapor out of the crankcase -than might be intended —by the design of the crankcase ventilation system built into our engine
If a consistent flow of air across the push rod valley is the systems intention  I would think slowing that volume of air  down could work against its design of doing the job it was intended to do to a lesser degree

If you have no filter in your oil cap ( does not apply to Cal cars with valve cover ventilation ) using the sock becomes a  very great idea ( a filter is always better than no filter )

Excuse me - as I go degrees my oil cap and review my crankcase ventilation thoughts —-LOL !

We better get out of the house Soon - if you get my drift

Enjoy

Tony, it is not a concern at all as the screen is very coarse and I doubt that there is not more than a few percentage points in air restriction there. The song is open at the bottom and not tight around the filler neck. It does a great job of catching oil droplets off the bottom of the oil cap. Not worried at all about restriction.

As for going stir crazy, I'm heading out with the family on a social distancing cruise with a a couple of car clubs that I'm in. We are going to meet up and then cruise around the city picking up members here and there. We'll stay in our cars and just cruise. Should be fun. Photos to follow I hope.

Tony, This is a temporary trick I used to keep the car engine absolutely pristine until you can get to a car show, etc. Before I rebuilt my engine and with a 158K engine, I often got some oil blow-by and would cut out about a 1ft square of landscape fabric, wrap it tight around the cap, zip tie it when going to a car show. Once at car show, cut zip tie off and looks nice and no oil spray.  The only problem for me with socks is I usually wear socks until they get holes in them then  become grease rags in the garage.

Going for a spin in the cars does help make you feel very much less confined to the house which does fee up  our spirit a good bit

64 Power Servo vacuum leak

Posted by Kent Prows on June 27, 2020 at 4:02pm 0 Comments

I finally got around to fixing a leak in my heater core.  I decided to check to see if there were any other obvious issues while I had everything torn apart.  When I put a vacuum directly (bypassing the transducer) to the power servo it gets to about 10" and then slowly leaks back to zero.  The fan will not go to full and the mode door will not open completely.  I have read a couple of other posts that said they repaired the power servo leaks.  How?  Does anyone have one to sell?  I just…
