Removing. Valve springs

I was trying to remove valve springs in 63 head.  I got the jaw type tool that you hook on the bottom and top of spring andvscrew downward,  I put a socket under the bottom of the valve to keep it from moving.

I watched 2 YouTube videos w this tool,  and i noticed as they squeezed the spring down the valve tip would sort of pop up and expose either either pin type or c type little holders you pull out w magnet.  In my case, the end of the valve tip isn't popping up so that the little holders can be removed.  I checked the manual and they didn't offer Anything that would make it pop loose.

What am I missing.   Is it just stuck due to age?  Is there some way to pop that loose once the spring is compressed to get the top to free so I can pull out the holders?

Thanks Tony,  couple took a pretty good `tap` to bust loose.

Some of the exhaust and intake moved freely, some were stuck after spring was removed.

Next question.  The e/I valves will not come out.  Is there some type of clamp or ring on the stem that needs to be removed. Before they will slide out of the head?

Going to pull springs springs off of othrr block today, drive them up to jackson tomorow, will take your advice and let them.pull the vlaves from there
