Purchased new front springs from Springs and things for my 63. Both ends are square cut as opposed to the tapper cut on the originals. My question is where to position the lower spring end? The service manual has the tapered end falling between the raised bump and the shock center line. doesn't seem right having the spring end hanging off the control arm. I called the company and they confirmed I have the correct springs.
I'm pretty sure the lower end is installed with the end of the spring tang even with the rear end of the lower control arm +/- 1/2"
Thanks Ronnie, that helps. I installed the right spring as you described, however, the left spring fit better with the end even with the front edge of the control arm. Installing the left like the right caused the top of the spring to push off the spring pocket due to the square end design. Nothing like OEM...
Passenger side spring lower end faces to the front of the control arm located between the raised spot on the control arm and the center of the lower shock bolt. The left drivers side spring lower end goes to the rear of the control arm in the same relation to the lower shock bolt. Hope this helps!
I’m going to try that.
