hey all

i just finished my restoration

i am just tweaking things now, and my steering column and dash panels were slightly off

i removed the lower steering column cover and loosened the clamp on the bottom of the column and the 2 bolts inside that hold the column in place

i adjusted it all and tightened up everything

my dash pad went on next and it was way off on the drivers side

i had to readjust the drivers side of the dash frame raising and pushing it towards the firewall

i accomplished this and then had to readjust the steering column

it looks good but the column still moves a bit

the only thing I am missing is the screw that’s goes into the bottom of the column thru the lower steering wheel cover

any ideas as to what I missed and what that screw does?

i did get the dash pad in better, but the gap by the windshield is greater on the drivers side

thx everyone

A screw goes in the lower panel. It has a special head to it, and I am out. Any screw will work.

The column is held in place by the clamp under the dash and the column should slide over the collar on the dash wiper switch mount panel.  The bottom of the column is secured by the rag joint and held with 2 bolts.

You should have a large cad coated floor clamp with 3 bolts to floor board and 2 bolts against column. (see 1st picture). There is also a large hanger bracket that attached to firewall/cowl via two nuts to 2 protruding studs, and a hanger bracket at the bottom with one bolt. (see 2nd picture pointing to hanger bracket, with outline if hanger bracket in blue.)
These should be very snug and tight with very little movement of the column once all these bolts are tightened.  Note: The tilt column is a larger diameter column and using the tilt brackets on a non-tilt would cause the column to be lose. If you need any of the brackets, or other mounting hardware give me a shout at jasonedge@nc.rr.com

1963 Eldorado convertible boot

Posted by Les Eastling on February 27, 2020 at 10:33am 0 Comments

I need a used convertible boot for a 63 Cadillac convertible - condition or color is not an issue since it will be used as a pattern for making a new one. One from either a 62 series convertible or an Eldorado would work. I know I am searching for hen's teeth here... but you never know unless you ask!
