I'm about to embark on replacing my Steering Gear in my '64 Series 62 Coupe. My motor is out of her and I just replaced the the front suspension. In the process I noticed the Steering Gear is leaking...I figure with everything out of the way this will be so much easier to deal with now then later. Before I go at it I'm thinking ahead to how is everything going to line back up properly with the Steering Gear and the Steering Column. Is there a place on the Steering Gear shafts that the Pitman arm lines up to...and same for the Steering Column?

Both the Pittman arm and steering column have flats or splines to align them, just make sure your new or rebuilt steering gear is centered before installation. Shop Manual has very good, thorough instructions.

Ronnie...Thanks! I noticed the "missing" spline areas. I do have an original shop manual I will refer to as well. Thanks for the info!!

Everything came apart without issue. Thanks for the input. I’m having a hard time finding a new rag joint...Does anyone know who carries one? I miss the days you could hit a local non-chain parts store and find what you needed.

I have a very nice original non-tilt column ragjoint for $50 ($45 as a Chapter Member) and can Priority for $8 for a total of $53. I am out of the tilt column version but can put you on my Wait List that is what you need and no one has one. Shoot me an email to jasonedge@nc.rr.com of you want the non-tilt I have pictured below:

I have used Dorman 3100, also Lares 201 for 64 non tilt.

Bad Guage?

Posted by Karl Schwarz on August 26, 2020 at 3:08pm 6 Comments

So I am troubleshooting my fuel gauge issue. I bought a new sender and tested it. It  it goes from 1-ohm (empty) to 35-ohm (full). When I test it (outside the tank), when the float is in the up (full) position it only moves the gauge to about 1/2 full. When at the bottom (empty) position the gauge shows empty. This is the same issue I have when I fill and then use the gas in the tank - the gauge never reads ore than half full. Based on what I've read on this thread it would seem like the…
