Backed out of the garage, and drove 1/2 a mile. Knew something was wrong , so babied it home. Revving, no exceleration. There was a huge tranny fluid slick in the driveway, and down the road for 30 yards, then it petered out. It started after leaving garage, (in reverse) and down the street.

Car is on stands. Leak isnt obvious. Put in 3 quarts of fluid, and it starts coming out of breather tube near back of tranny. Which , im assuming, is were all the oil on the road came from. (Makes sense. Center of car, and no spray on undercarriage.)

   Options? Next step?

Which tranny do you have and how many miles on it ?
Loosing all your lubrication is always a major problem causing more damage to parts

Enjoy

On your 63, all I can recommend is replacing the trans filter and putting fluid back in it.

Not sure what you mean by --the breather near the back of the trans
You have two trans fluid lines with possibly parcial rubber hoses that go to under the radiator to cool the trans fluid off
Any chance those lines are the source of the fluid leak ?
The fluid is under pressure in those lines and can drain trans fluid fast if one is broken or damaged

Enjoy

Breather tube, not cooling lines. I will drop the pan tomorrow and do a visual.      Wish me luck....

I have fought 63 jetaway leaks for years. I replaced the oring on the filler tube, speedometer, and drained the trans. The listing on the major parts sites are wrong for the trans filter. The one you need is offered by a couple sites at @$125. 1960-63 hydromatic/ jetaway.  I took mine out and its all metal with a small o ring. I washed it out and put it back in with fresh fluid. the service manual states 9 qts. Iyou can drain the t convertor very easily  get all the old fluid out. I put A bottle of trans X and filled it up. It shifted better and I have not leaks right now. Its just what worked for me...

1963 Eldorado convertible boot

Posted by Les Eastling on February 27, 2020 at 10:33am 0 Comments

I need a used convertible boot for a 63 Cadillac convertible - condition or color is not an issue since it will be used as a pattern for making a new one. One from either a 62 series convertible or an Eldorado would work. I know I am searching for hen's teeth here... but you never know unless you ask!
