Looking for a turn signal switch for my '64 coupe DeVille. The mechanic working on it said it's the cause of the passenger rear blinker and brake light not working. This is a big issue since police in my area love issuing fixit tickets for lights out. The issue getting one of these tickets is that I can't fix the problem. Please let me know if anyone has one. Thank you

Tilt or non-tilt column? Switch is different.

Non-Tilt Wheel

I have a good non tilt switch. Just send me an email;  russ85747@hotmail.com   I'll need your zip code to get you a good shipping quote.

Email sent. Thanks sir.

Hi Roy, I once had this issue on a ‘63 Olds 98. If you used the right blinker, then the brake light on right side would stop working. Original owner said “Oh yeah, just click the left blinker once and it’ll work again.” He was right! He had lived with it that way for at least 20 years. Assuming yours is not obviously broken, the following may fix the one you have. I removed the neutral safety switch, carefully disassembled it and cleaned out the old dried up lithium grease from the contact surfaces. Applied new lithium grease and lightly stretched the contact springs so that when assembled they’d apply more force to the contacts. (They’re tiny and don’t require much stretching.) Once reassembled and installed, brake lights and turn signals all functioned properly. These are fragile parts and not a bad idea to have a spare even if yours is fixable.
Hope this info is useful,
Best, John

Correction - turn signal switch not neutral safety switch.

Both switches effect the rear tail lights operation —so your info is still a good thought to check into

My own front cornering lights were not working and a worn wire covering in the steering column on the signal switch was my own issue but not related to the cars rear light operation

Just pointing out another SS issue effecting the cars turn signal switch operation

The steering wheel will have to come off to get to the signal switch to investigate any problem with it — only after doing some continuity checking —of wire connectors —under the removal plate under the steering column to determine  if a wire is broken in the steering column to justify pulling the steering wheel off and going in

Bad Guage?

Posted by Karl Schwarz on August 26, 2020 at 3:08pm 6 Comments

So I am troubleshooting my fuel gauge issue. I bought a new sender and tested it. It  it goes from 1-ohm (empty) to 35-ohm (full). When I test it (outside the tank), when the float is in the up (full) position it only moves the gauge to about 1/2 full. When at the bottom (empty) position the gauge shows empty. This is the same issue I have when I fill and then use the gas in the tank - the gauge never reads ore than half full. Based on what I've read on this thread it would seem like the…
