Hi folks,

I'm new to Cadillacs so bear with me if this question has already been answered but I did a search of the forum and couldn't find an answer.

It appears I have an original master cylinder (based on photos of Jason's setup). The brake booster may also be original.

I would like to have them rebuilt before putting them back in the car so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a place to do the rebuild. Rockauto offers a return and rebuild service but I'm a bit leery of how good the rebuild would be.

Any advice is appreciated!

Chris

Thanks Tony. I'm new to the site so I'm in the fumbling around stage!

This site is ---one of the very best places you could be if you own one of our year Cadillacs for anything related to the cars
The only thing better than this place is having the car out for a ride and causing a sceen where ever you show up
Makes for a lot of FUN
The weather is to -- Die For !!! when i roll out my 64 convertible that has a lot to do with the above reactions
One of my favorite things to do On a super day

Enjoy

It appears that my brake booster isn't original if I compare it to Jason Edge's setup. Can someone confirm this? If I'm correct, I might as well not get this one rebuilt (just do the MC), right?

Chris,

There were two different booster/master cylinder assemblies originally used on the '63s. Delco Moraine which had two studs attaching the MC to the booster and Bendix which had four studs. You have a Delco Moraine booster and what looks like a replacement MC so you may well have an original booster.

Obviously a Bendix booster requires a bendix (4 stud) MC etc. but the entire booster/MC units are interchangeable with maybe just a little bending to make the brake lines fit.

I just had mine done with Steve over at Power Brake Booster Exchange last summer and he was very reasonable. My suggestion would be to buy a decent condition used one to rebuild and send it to him. He's located in Oregon and his rates were very fair compared to the competition. I did a lot of research before deciding on their company and was very happy with the results.

Thanks for the link Christopher.

Karps Brakes 909 985-0800 rebuilt 2 sets for me.  Good work and fair price. A lot of restoration shop use him.

- The 1963 and 1964 Cadillacs came with either a Bendix or Delco Morraine brake booster & master cylinder.

- The 1963 and 1964 brake setups changed for both brands from 1963 to 1964. (i.e. 1963 Bendix different from 1964 Bendix and 1963 Delco different from 1964 Delco)

- My 1964 Coupe de Ville has the 1964 Delco Morraine brake setup.

- There are examples of these in your shop manual. There are also examples on the following Help page if you scroll through: Brake Illustrations and Pictures

- I do have some original style boosters of master cylinders that would be good for rebuild for $45 for either the booster or master cylinder if you want to send out to restore so you have an original setup for your year car. If you need something email me at jasonedge@nc.rr.com and state model year and brake brand preference if any.

Is there a separate Starter Relay, or does the Solenoid serve that purpose?

Posted by Norman Silverman on August 30, 2019 at 5:57pm 7 Comments

Hello All.

I will be replacing the starter solenoid tomorrow (actually my mechanic will do the work, I'll just supervise). In checking the FSM electrical schematic and chapter verbiage, I don't see anything that looks like (or is referred to as) a starter Relay. It seems the Starter Solenoid serves the function and there's no separate relay. Right or Wrong?

If wrong, where…

Starter Solenoid replacement-how difficult? Where to buy?

Posted by Norman Silverman on August 20, 2019 at 8:24pm 8 Comments

Hello All.

I believe the starter solenoid has gone bad in my 64 DeVille. When I turn the key, often all I get is a click, then if I try a few times again the starter turns perfectly. All battery cables are on tight and the battery is good. So, I believe this problem is the solenoid. Where do I buy the right solenoid and is it necessary to remove the starter in order to swap it out? …

Can anyone shed some light on how to position the complete drive shaft in the correct position? I want to make sure my drive shaft is installed properly.

Thanks
