I do see your point as i am recalling the rubber drain tube that directs the water flow away from the evaporator core
How many of those are still there doing the job they should be might be the better question to ask ?
If the core should freeze where will the thaw water overflow wind up ?
There is surely a moisture issue in that location for a variety of reasons that are AC related
When would a rust preventative not be a good idea ?

Nope the a/c dosent drip on the fender. It drips out the bottom of the inner cowl where the evaporator is. Lots of factory undercoating there.

I dont have the parts for the ac, bought the car last year without pump, lines and so on.. So making the ac work again will be a plan for the future. But your right about the rust. My panels do need attention. I just painted the inside of the panels with a special primer that digs in to rust for now. Going to buy a weldmachine next summer and teach myself how to do bodywork. Shouldnt be that difficult right? Ghehheh.

As you have the passenger front fender off the car
I would use a good rust preventaive on the inside of that fender
The evaporator core of the AC in our year cars drips down the inside of that fender when the Ac is working and working correctly
That AC driping is the major cause of the rust that developes in that lower fender Corner which already may require some repair and attention from age

Had to pull the engine so might ass well freshn up everything. It has taken alot of patience and money but it is totally worth it.

Brakes Went Out

My '64 Cadillac DeVille had been sitting for awhile while I was travelling this summer and when I came home it had some issues starting. After replacing the plugs and the ignition coil, it was running better than it had in a long time but the brakes were sticking. I noticed the brake pedal was traveling a little farther than usual when slowing down. Soon after I noticed a hissing noise coming from around the brake pedal. Comfortron AC trouble shooting

OK, here we go.....

I got the book to troubleshoot the system. INDISPENSABLE to this effort. 

As I do a cursory exam, I see that the AC RECIRC SOLENOID is Cracked (the WHITE one in the engine compartment coming out of the HVAC body with two vacuum hoses on it). I tried to patch it up (cracked all around the base), but it does not look like it will hold. 



A/C Issue / Stumped !

My 63 CDV factory A/C was trash so I replaced every part in the system and converted to R134 . I also installed a STV bypass kit which eliminated the STV all together and converted the system to a cycling system.  I vacumed and charged the system with 36oz of 134. The system is cycling as it should and the pressures are right at 250 high side, cycle off at 25lbs and cycle back on at about 35lbs. It is making plenty of water on the low side hoses and evaporator drain. There is very good air…
