Metal inline fuel filters

I have a question... When I was a young boy and teenager working in full service gas stations in the late 1960's early 1970's, I know I saw several Cadillacs with an A/C brand metal fuel filter in…Continue

Dana Cooper Asks: What Replacement is used for "type A " trans fluid

Started this discussion. Last reply by Anders Oct 18, 2016. 2 Replies

What transmission fluid is suggested to replace "type A " in a 1963 jetaway trans ? I'm assuming Dextron II but I want to be sure. This is a complete drained service, not a rebuild. Any Suggestions ?Continue

Jetaway Trans. Flywheel O-Ring

This is not a big issue but it may help someone. I am a retired mechanic of 40 plus years and I could not believe I almost missed this... My 63 CDV had a leak at the flywheel O-ring. In preparation for the repair I read many online stories about the O-ring missing completely when they removed the flywheel from the tourrus on the Jetaway transmission.I removed the trans last week and pulled the flywheel off. Upon inspection I thought "wow, the O-ring is missing off my flywheel too ! " I cleaned…See More

Quarter Window on Coupe Deville

Posted on September 6, 2017 at 8:14pm 3 Comments

I had the need to remove the rear inside quarter panels on my CDV today & I had to smile when I looked at all the window tracks it took to make the rear window roll up and down as it does, and then I thought about when the tracks were designed, ( prior to computers as we know them today ), and I wondered how many slide rule calculations it might have taken to make the window roll as it does. Sometimes I am amazed at what the engineers were able to do on these vehicles prior to computers…

Curious In Mounds

Posted on August 31, 2017 at 8:28pm 2 Comments

I have read about the spare tire locations on the different models of the 63-64 's. As I removed my trunk mat on my CDV for the first time today I discovered something interesting. My spare has always been under the back shelf as I understand it should be on a Coupe Deville. When I removed my trunk mat I discovered the anchor for a J hook on the right side of the trunk had been cut out of the trunk floor pan. My mat had a square hole in the cardboard part of the trunk mat but the fabric had…

1963 CDV Lower Door Window Track

Posted on August 14, 2017 at 9:53am 3 Comments

I wanted to let anyone who is interested know how I made a 63 convertible door lower window track fit my 2dr hardtop CDV. I apologize , I do not have a way to send pictures but I think I can explain it so everyone can understand. I was working on the right door. The new lower channel for the convertible was about an inch or so longer than my CDV channel.

When you lay the old channel assembly on top of the new channel assembly, the rear channel guide  (guide nearest the door latch )…

Doing disc brake conversion and I need to change out the rims--what to get?

Posted by Preston Bealle on December 7, 2017 at 3:55pm 20 Comments

I'm having a mechanic change to '64 Deville convertible to disc brakes. He used the spacers that came with the kit but one side takes 2 spacers and the other 3, and there is a slight disconnect from the center hub from being so far out. It appears the best solution would not be further tinkering with spacers but a deeper 15" rim made for disc brakes. Does anyone know what rims might work that will allow the existing Cadillac hub caps to fit?

I have read everything I can find on disc…

The Mileage reading on your speedometer

Posted by Tony and Ginny 429 on November 4, 2017 at 10:57pm 20 Comments

I hope i am not breaking anyones bubble but if you choose to remove the speedometer you can change the mileage on these cars to anything you desire it to be by just adjusting some of its internal parts and changing the numbers

That can lead to a lot of misconduct and cause you to by a car that is not correctly represented by its mileage

Just a heads up to study other aspects of the car to see if the mileage feels right for the wear and tear you may be looking at on a given… Continue
