When are you hearing the valve noise , at start up or while driving ,for a while ?
Hopefully it is only dirty or poor quality oil ,that may require some Additional additives for our older engines
Oil can break down and cause this problem
I just solved a lifter noise problem myself that suddenly just popped up, when doing 60 MPH for a while
When the engine went to an idle from speed ,I had a valve lifter noise that would take 30 seconds to go away ,but it would go away
An oil change and two produces from ,
Rislone oil additive and Rislone ZDDP for a flat tappet cam ,did the trick to bring back my engine
Runs quieter smoother and more powerfully
I let the old oil drain until it stopped dripping , for about two hours
On the down side the lifts could be worn and need to be replaced
Knowing the number of miles on the engine and how the engines lubrication has been maintained can help make a good decision on how to proceed
