1964 Cadillac AC with a 7 port Vacuum control valve

Posted on August 24, 2017 at 3:00am 28 Comments

Is anyone having the same problem I'm having ? In park with AC on no vacuum at the fast idle diaphragm, ( so the fast idle diaphragm is out and bumping up the idle) when I put it in drive I'm getting vacuum there. So in park with the AC on the engine is idling at 900 RPM's put in drive it drops down to 450 600 ish. So when your sitting at a red light it feels like the engine is starving for fuel not to mention it's running hotter than it should.…

Can't sleep thinking about my car, am I alone in this ?

Posted on August 23, 2017 at 3:23am 20 Comments

I have had my 64 13 years and I think I might be on the right track to fixing my AC. I think I might have the vaccum lines going to the check valve before the neutral safety switch at the bottom of the steering column in the wrong configuration and Im not sure where the black line going from the power servo rotary valve number 6 vacuum line is going.

did you find something wrong with the window switch, when you took it apart?

At 6:41pm on October 1, 2012, Jason Edge said…

Sometimes the contacts just need cleaning and pulling up to make contact once switch housing is removed from casing. If you still need a 4 way I may have one but going down my needs list right now. I've got a good one but going down my needs list to see if those looking for one earlier still needs one. If not its yours...

Joe, Make sure the power window wires that go through the door are not broken. Remove the small 1/4" hex metal screws attaching the retainers on the door wire rubber boot (if still in place) and pull the rubber boot back and check that those wires are not broken and in good condition.

If that is not the problem and you still need a switch, I've got a good working 4 way master switch if  you still need one. My other 2 on the "needs list" never got back with me. Shoot me an email to jasonedge@nc.rr.com

will your 4 way switch work on my 6 way button. you sold me one awhile ago and its black, the one I have is tan. when I but yours in the vent windows would not work but the main windows would. Then I took mine apart & cleaned it but it is not working right. I looked at the wires first & they seam to be OK. I just don't understand how some work with yours & some work with mine.

At 3:06pm on October 3, 2012, Joe DiIaconi said…

O yeah mine is thin & Tan where yours is thick & black so I can't even switch the vent window chip in them both to make them work together. PS I cleaned them with electrical cleaner & 1000 grit sandpaper.

At 3:37pm on October 3, 2012, Jason Edge said…

Joe, the color of the bottom material shoudn't matter. I always test out the switched before I send out. it seems like you have other problems. I would double check the wiring etc.

You can use the main 4 way section of the the 4 way switch I have for the 4 way main window switch part of your 6 way but if the windows you are having issues with is the Vent Windows it will do not you any good.

The section I'm referring to is that on the left for the 4 way switch below:

Air Suspension - How to Choose and Install

Posted by Michael Forte on February 19, 2018 at 10:00pm 8 Comments

What I enjoy most about old cars is that they can be restored to original condition, radically customized, or somewhere between those extremes, reflecting the owner's individual style.  For my '63 Convertible, I want to achieve a mostly original look, with minor custom touches to make it clean, smooth, and low.  This article is to share my experience in choosing and installing the suspension components to achieve a low stance and a comfortable ride.

I purchased my car in August of…

Emblem Removal

Posted by Christopher Belinda on February 19, 2018 at 1:33pm 4 Comments

Good Afternoon - my name is Chris and I'm new to the site (well ... officially; I've read a lot of your posts and am very impressed by the great advice and interest).  I'm working on a very original '63 SDV Park Avenue and am attempting to remove the "Park Avenue" emblems in preparation for a repaint.  Once I carefully removed the truck liner, I noticed that the studs are conical shaped and do not appear to have ever had a speed-nut, or some type of push clip ever installed.  I have removed…

Updating the alternator without losing the "Gen" light

Posted by Michael Forte on February 19, 2018 at 12:00am 8 Comments

Our old Cadillacs have a pretty simple electrical system using an externally regulated alternator to keep the battery charged and run the accessories while driving.  First appearing in 1963, the GM 10DN externally regulated alternator was a step up from the bulky generator used on the '62 and earlier.  But newer, internally regulated alternators are now available that can output three times the current in the same size package.  This article explains how I upgraded my charging system to a…
