"Thank you all for your thoughts. After talking with my father-in-law, I’ve decided to make sure I get it checked out with the local machine shop. There is a date stamp on the next bearing indicating it was rebuilt in ‘87."

"If there was no significant scratching or abrasion on the rod journals due to the rod bearing failure, you probably got lucky. If there is deep scratching, etc they will need to be reground and new undersized rod bearings used. If only minor crank…"

"So, I broke down the engine last night and found that the rod bearings were stacked on top of one another. There were two grinding away on one side and none on the other. But on a good note, there’s no scarring, gouging or signs of wear. "

Bad Guage?

So I am troubleshooting my fuel gauge issue. I bought a new sender and tested it. It  it goes from 1-ohm (empty) to 35-ohm (full). When I test it (outside the tank), when the float is in the up (full) position it only moves the gauge to about 1/2 full. When at the bottom (empty) position the gauge shows empty. This is the same issue I have when I fill and then use the gas in the tank - the gauge never reads ore than half full. Based on what I've read on this thread it would seem like the…
