A Test

Well, we woke up to a beautiful, warm day for this time of year here in NE Ks. yesterday. The wife said it would be " a good day to test the Caddie".

This is  in prep for a little adventure we're planning to take the end of March first part of April. We're going to drive the Ks, Ok. and maybe Texas stretch of Route 66. What better way of doing it than in a '63 Sedan DeVille.

I said what the h..., temp in the 40's-50's, sunshine, threw a few tools in the trunk and headed…

63 SDV Rear Seat Belts

Well, the wife say we gotta have'em so I'm on the hunt for seat belts for the back seat of my SDV 4 window.

My question is, are the rears the same length as the front?. Near as I can tell, fronts are about 70+ inches or so.

I've been looking at after market, chrome latch belts that are pretty reasonable. Seat Belt Planet and Andoauto are a couple. Although not exact match to the fronts that are installed, they'll be fine for my driver.

Haven't looked around at it yet to…

Trans fluid blowing out 63 Fleetwood

Anyone had any issues with trans fluid leaking out of the dipstick? I cant find any other leaks coming out of the transmission. I checked the fluid when it was warm and in park and the fluid was right where it was suppose to be. But it is leaking and dripping all over the underneath of the frame . Any suggestions would be helpful.

Rear lower bushings 63 Fleetwood

Now that I am final driving the car, I am finding things that need to be addressed. I bought new rear bushings for the lower rear control arm that holds the axle and they are both torn, so the arms sit crooked now. Is there some poly ones or is there a special way to press them in?

When I pressed them in, I tried to center the bushings in the arms. The lower rear ones is suppose to keep the axle from flexing sideways, but should be allowed to move up and down? It looks like they tore…

Fuel tank refurb

Just finished dropping the tank on the 63 SDV due to the common problem of  gas smell when I filled it up. It was either due to a bad gasket on sender or cracked hose on vent tube.  Project cost me 40.00. Ingredients were as follows:

3ft. 1/4 fuel line for return line

3ft 5/16 fuel line for fuel line

7 Inches of 2 inch filler hose

2 inches of 5/8 vent tube…

Seat belt restoration

Does anyone have any positive or negative references for seat belt restoration? I need to get belt webbing replaced and the mechanisms checked out for my '63 Eldorado.

Thanks,

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
