The  non A/C  carb bowl has a broken mount on the base 3655S, I had an A/C carburetor 3656S same year  and everything look the same  so I’m transferring all the parts  jets, metering rods floats, nozzles .....everything to the carb that had A/C  . I’m just putting together a good spare Incase I have an issue with the one on the car

The sizes of the jets and metering rods is stamped on them

If the metering rods are worn  ( usually on the top ) you can get new at the local auto parts store

Once you know —ALL the engine spec  and vacuum issues have been addressed and correct you will want to reject the carb for the ethanol fuel we now use ( very last adjustment to tweak the tune )

The plugs should look the color of a brown paper bag when they are right and will burn whiter than they SB with the ethanol fuel

Whiter is leaner and produces additional heat in the cylinders

if you call Edelbrock  techs and tell them the number of the jets  and metering rods you have they will advise you which primary jets and metering rod combo to go to get the plugs that color

Took me two times to get mine right with there help

They bought the rights to produce the Carter carb and made a few changes to it on there new carbs they sell

The Carter is an outstanding carb so rebuilding them and staying stock is a very good idea to me especially if you have a 63 with the TV rod that shifts the trans attached to accelerator arm of the carb

The bracket for the TV rod does not come on any new Edelbrock carbs sold and you would have to be making your own for the trans to shift right which I would not be comfortable doing

The trans performing correctly  on the any Cadillac in our years with the Hydromatic  trans is way to far important to be making you own carb bracket  to be doing that in my own opinion

Where did you get tour info on the carb models?  I would love to have that info on hand, as I never heard it before. One never stops learning, I love it.

The Carter carb bowl should be the same, just check the jets.

When rebuilding the Carter  carb be sure the accelerator pump moves freely and is not binding in its cavity

I think the only difference WB the vacuum idle up valve that the AC carb would have on its outside —on the passengers side of the carb as an attachment

Brings the idle up 600 RPMs when AC is used at an idle

Otherwise the carbs SB the same —so yes

Dash removal

Hello everyone,

On a 63 CDV, if a guy wanted to remove the entire dash to get all the metal painted, and do some other things behind there, how would he go about doing that?  I checked here and the shop manual, but can't find a complete guide.

As always, and help or direction is appreciated.  Thanks!

Thanks for letting me join the club.  Picked up this ‘64 Coupe Deville a few months ago out of Beverly MA, the car has few stickers on it from various Cadillac clubs, didn’t know if anyone might recognize it from it’s “Glory days.” Everything seems pretty healthy except for the body and some very Mickey Mouse repairs, was wondering if anyone had any leads on…
