I have a '63 cad Series 62. I was wondering if these cars had anti-freeze over flow collection bottles? When I turn my car off anti-freeze runs out of the over flow hose. If not is it ok to put one in?

Thanks, Kevin

Old  radiator coolant will not exchange heat as it was designed to

It looses it ability to do that over time and SB changed when due ( maintenance )
What is your temp gauge reading at operating temp ? ( which I asked before )

It SB just past the first quarter mark on the gauge when correct which is about 180 degrees

The half way point on the gauge is 200 degrees and hotter than your temp SB

Do examine the the seal surface of the rad cap to the rad

Spec for the cap is 13 1/2 to 16 1/2 lbs so you're good there. I would think that the seals are a standard size. Check the radiator filler neck for imperfections. Does the car run hot?

Would a wrong radiator cap cause this problem? The one I have is rated at 16# and I did put a new one on last summer with the same results. I'm wondering if the cap seal is not the right size.

They did not have overflow bottles back then. There are several aftermarket bottles available. I got one at Autozone and installed where the voltage regulator used to be (now have internally regulated alternator).

Kevin

The car did not come with an overflow collection bottle in these years

I do have an overflow bottle I put in my 64

If your cooling system is overflowing when you shut the car off you are having an issue with the cars cooling system running to hot that you should look into

Where does your car run on the  dash temp gauge ?

Enjoy

63 Trunk detail

Posted by Bob Pontius on April 8, 2021 at 3:07pm 1 Comment

Jason, I liked the detail and information you have provided. I would like to do mine similar to yours. Can you help? Do you have trunk material? OPGI is sending the trunk product for my 63 Fleetwood. But it does cover the entire trunk as yours was done. If you do not have can you give me a reference? Thanks!! Bob

Car lift and jack stands

I mentioned during the 63/64 chapter zoom meeting on 3/21 that we had installed a car lift in our garage. Someone asked what kind and I didn't have the info at hand, so here is a link to it and also a link to some tall jack stands we use to add more stability to the car and an additional safety factor. There is something about getting underneath one of these cars that makes me a little nervous! …

Leaky Freeze Plug

Posted by Lee Martin on March 22, 2021 at 12:49pm 7 Comments

Just developed a significant leak coming from a freeze plug right over the starter.  Would this be considered a "cam plug" i.e. like Dorman 17616DS?  Our cars have multiple sizes of plugs on engine block and I want to get the right one.  Also, does anyone know how pricey this is for a shop to fix?  Thanks!
