The motor is grounded at 3 spots.  The large starter strap, and the 2 small straps at the back of the heads.

I had the same problem. Ended up being a bad ground connection at the battery and missing ground straps. Car would start and drive fine, but after a little while it would randomly die and eventually got to where it wouldn't even crank. Found that the battery wires at the posts were very corroded causing a lot of resistance. Clipped the ends and put on new post connectors and haven't had a problem since.

I would change the points - condenser and do the timing
If you have not done a - COMPLETE tune up - that would be next on your list to do
You Needbto know the basics are new ,adjusted and working as they S/B

i changed the spark plugs about three weeks ago and i checked them yesterday and they were kind of wet the mechanic said if was running kind of rich. i do get a spark

Are you running hotter than normal ?
When was your last Complete -tune up ?
When the problem happens ,do you have the skills to see if you are getting a spark and fuel to the plugs (they s/b wet))
