Hello everyone,

On a 63 CDV, if a guy wanted to remove the entire dash to get all the metal painted, and do some other things behind there, how would he go about doing that?  I checked here and the shop manual, but can't find a complete guide.

As always, and help or direction is appreciated.  Thanks!

I didn't even paint my dash or what is left of it when all else is removed. I took the glove box door, lower dash panel with ash tray, steering column and piece over column with ignition switch to my paint guy and had him paint them. I was lucky that what is left was in pretty decent shape and was able to match up the color very closely.

I painted the dash in my 63 Hearse. I left the dash in, but removed the instrument cluster, radio faceplate and AC control head.

It would be hard to describe everything from memory but Russ hits most of the biggies. Of course you want to remove the dash pad and lower dash cover, and removing the steering wheel and column will definitely make it easier. There is a large center upper bracket, vacuum hose connections, radio antenna, and a few other odds and ends but if you go slow it is not that bad.  When I part a car out I use a long flat screwdriver to disconnect the vent ducts and push them back a bit so they do not tear, and remove all of the metal dash body brackets except the top end brackets on the far left and right. As I disconnect things and am ready to remove the dash I have a large towel or blanket on my lap and lift the dash up and off the top end brackets and lay the dash in my lap. I have tools in hand such as pliers, small and large screw drivers and 1/4" socket for the Bowden cable bracket and WD40.  I use a small screwdriver to slip thru the open end of wiring connectors and a pliers to pull from the other end, and WD40 to lube it up a bit. Once I have the dash on my lap and everything disconnected I simply slide it out to one side as one assembly.  You said your seats are out... so this might not work as well for you. But for me I just sit the dash down in my lap with tools at hands reach. That's the way I have probably done it for the last 50 parts cars!

This may it may not be a winter project.  Haven't decided yet but I'm thinking it might be easier at the moment assum the seats are ito getting redone.

Disconnect the wire harness to the ignition switch. Disconnect the wire harness that clips to the bottom of the fuse panel.  Disconnect the wire harness plugs on the L and R side of the dash that plug into the kick panel connectors.  Remove the dash. Disconnect the speedometer cable. Disconnect all elec plugs to the AC/heat system. Disconnect all bowdens cables to the AC/heat system.  Disconnect the AC duct and defrost hoses.  It is best to remove the steering wheel so you don't have to muscle the dash over the column.  Don't forget the shift indicator.  

2 brackets on the bottom,, and 2 brackets on top.  There is a center support rod at the bottom. 

Go slow and look for wires still attached.  I went off of memory here.

I have a 64, but I'm sure the 63 is closed to the same thing. First you remove the window trim on either side of the dash. Then there are three screws above the instrument cluster. Then there are I believe two or three bolts n the glove box. Stick your hands in the defrosting Vents and pull towards yourself.

driveshaft help

can anyone help me with a driveshaft ? I have a 1963 Cadillac 62 series 4dr with the hydro-matic trans. I need the male splined shaft on the front of the rear driveshaft section. the piece with the nut attached by clip.id be willing to buy a shaft if its not horribly priced.

Carter AFB carburetor question

3655S carb, and a 3656S carb .I know the difference is one is for A/C and the other in for a non A/C car . Now the question is : can I use the carb bowl from the A/C car on the non A/C car ? They look the same set up next to each other
