I have been having getting my car to start then a friend came by and hooked a wire from the coil to the battery and it fired right away. Can anyone tell me if it's the starter or some other electrical problem. Thanks

Also check the ground strap that runs from back of engine at starter over to the frame. If this is not making very solid connection your car will not start or starter will drag.  There was an excellent related article on slow starting problems regarding insufficient grounding by Jay Friedman and Art Gardner in the Cadillac LaSalle Club July 2015 Self Starter.  This was for 1936 to 1953 Cadillacs, which have a different setup, however, the concept is the same.

Your battery wires are probably the culprit. Its the easies thing to do first.  Change both wires on the battery, and get the largest cable size you can get at the parts store. Check your ground wire on the starter. It should be attached to a mount bolt and the frame.  Check the condition of the wires going to the starter. Any cracked wires need to be replaced.

If that doesn't work, have a shop rebuild your starter.

I have a 63 Cadillac problem having a starting problem when battery is charged I can start with no problem. I can drive on highway for 10 miles or so get home shut it off try and start again and my car starter drags. Alternator charges but something drains battery Does anyone have any ideas?

Your problem is not the starter ,as the engine started and ran
The yellow power wire at the coil ,is not getting power to the coil ,as that is what was done by running a direct power supply from your battery
Looks like an electrical problem , related to the yellow wire
Need to trace the yellow wire back to were it has power ,could be a break in the wirung

Check for power at the yellow wire on the coil. It will have 12V when cranking the engine.

Good morning!  I am Matias Adrogue.  I bought a 1964 Cadillac coupe de ville last year and am real close to the final restoration details!  I call her “Jaws 64”.  Pics will be posted soon.  I need advise regarding a AC/heater.  It came stock in the vehicle but it does not work.  A mechanic gave me a bid of $1700 to replace and repair.  I am ready to install a new system - Vintage Air or Old Air Products from Fort Worth Texas.  I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.  I read the great write…
