Understanding GM T3 Headlight History

Here is a good video about those original T-3 Headlights. If you are restoring your 63/64 Cadillac, you will get to the point where you want he original headlights, but may wonder about their history. I thought this was a pretty good overview and keep a link and thought I would share.

I posted pictures for you of my stock vacuum lines at the rear of the intake
I do not have vacuum door locks
64-429 Edelbrock 1406 and a spectre air cleaner

Make note of the aluminum fitting at the back of the Edelbrock carb ( Carter same thing )
That would be the part you may need to get back to a stock lay out if thats your direction

I think the vacuum lines you now have may in some way be making up for the rear carb fitting that is missing in some way --but not sure

I totally agree with you Tony, the build quality of our cars is outstanding!! Everything to the nicely metal dash, shiny padded door panels, to the chrome metal trim everywhere, brushed  metal door handles heavy thick doors, heavy duty hood and trunk lids, high quality thick leather seats and diamond pattern design,, when you step into a 63-64 Cad, you feel like you are a the president of some big fancy corporation and or someone very important.

At the same time they are very youthful and exciting styled  cars for being a so called “grandpa car” even back then. Nothing grandpaish about our Cads!!

Yes there used to be a time when quality ment something to companies, and that Cadillac was special and it’s own vehicle. Those headlights are no different. Sometimes older things are just plain better to use and operate especially stuff like certain hand tools, vacuum cleaners and older appliances that would just keep on going and not break down.

I try not to  live in the past, but I love to own things from the past that reminds me of how great our country was at making everything. That’s not the case anymore. It’s all about quantity over quality and durability.

A perfect example of the quality that went into most things made in America in these years
The mentality was to have the part last as long as is possible -- unlike the world we live in today with planned obsolesence being the mind set

That is why the quality of the cars we own is what it is -- outstanding quality in many things was a sign of the times in our years in America

Headlights lasting 40-50 years and still working
Now thats a manufacturing feet to admire

Hello All.

I will be replacing the starter solenoid tomorrow (actually my mechanic will do the work, I'll just supervise). In checking the FSM electrical schematic and chapter verbiage, I don't see anything that looks like (or is referred to as) a starter Relay. It seems the Starter Solenoid serves the function and there's no separate relay. Right or Wrong?

Hello All.

I believe the starter solenoid has gone bad in my 64 DeVille. When I turn the key, often all I get is a click, then if I try a few times again the starter turns perfectly. All battery cables are on tight and the battery is good. So, I believe this problem is the solenoid. Where do I buy the right solenoid and is it necessary to remove the starter in order to swap it out? …

Lining up the drive shaft
