Well, i think  i have the  oil pump cover gasket back on and not leaking,, at least i took it for a short ride, and no apparent hemorrhage,, will go give it a feel and see if any thing is on the bottom of the seams.

my newest notice of things, was after my ride, i can hear the radiator bubbling under the cap.  Car isn't over heating,, staying at the 1/4 mark.  i havent ever noticed it before.  In addition to that, it seems to be coming out of the overflow hose.  When i bought the car, i never did see an over flow tank, and dont remember seeing a picture with one on there, so is there one supposed to be on there?  i have checked the hoses, dont  see any leaking or anything..

anyway, thoughts on what causes the radiator to be bubbling,

radiator is a new radiator,, so it shouldn't be crud in the system,, fluid looks green no brown,, it seems to be more of a boiling sound than just a gurgle, accompanied by the outflow through the tube, with no apparent over heat

Do you have a new radiator cap installed? A unpressurized cooling system will boil. If the cap is failing, no pressure is building up.

i didn't put one on when i changed the radiator but i will get one tomorrow,, see if it settles it down,,

Your neck on the new rad may be longer than your old one. Your cap spring may not be properly tensioned against the neck to provide the proper pressure. You may need to find out what the proper size recommended cap is from the supplier. This would be the rubber part of the cap sealing to the bottom inside of the filler neck on the radiator.

You are also not supposed to fill the rad right to the top of the neck. It should only be filled to1" to 1/2" below the top of the tank. This allows the fluid to expand and not be forced out the cap. On newer cars its forced to the overflow tank and sucked back in when cooled. The bubbling you hear can also be the rad cooling and sucking air back into the rad.

i had it fill to about an inch below,  so i think i was ok there on that part of it.

i noticed later the level seems to move up and down to a level just under the lip, to down to about  1.5 inches down, I know i had filled it to the 1 inch level.  but it does seem to be moving,

will get a new one tomorrow,  Should i get some sort of overflow tank,, is that something that is an "upgrade",, seems the fluid blows out the overflow hose,, and can make a mess

I'd make sure you have the right size cap before going further. Your old cap may be short. If you have the old rad measure the top of the neck to the sealing surface and compare to your new one.

I changed caps,  seems a better tighter fit.  Took for a longer ride, no heat problems, didnt notice bubbling sound, but,  first picture is what happens when i stopped and shut down.

Also.  As a follow up to the gasket leaks,  i mentioned the oI'll l looked a funny color, and the shop man said thet used a dye to chase down the leaks, ,,well, its ugly, see pictures, sooo, to make sure something else wasnt wrong, i changed oil, now that current leak search is over.  After driving on couple of occasions, i checked oil.  Seems to hv maintained its light brown color,  im just worried that the antifreeze got in engine, and i hv read that is a head gasket problem, so i will contine to ck oil color.

Any further thoughts on the overflow?

If they put a fluorescent dye in the oil that woukd be the proper colour of it. If you have any yellow sun glasses it'll look bright green.

Kim did you measure the depth inside the rad neck to get the right cap? One of two things is happening, you overfilled the radiator or the cap doesn't fit right.

Adding an overflow bottle is a good idea. It keeps the system topped off, and you can check on the level of coolant at a glance, to see if the coolant is being lost somewhere.

You can rent a coolant system pressure gauge. It goes in place of the cap, and you start up the car and let it warm up. If the pressure stays steady, then the coolant system should be good. If the pressure pulses, then it is an indication of a head gasket leak, allowing cylinder pressure to bleed into the coolant system.

You can also manually pressurize the coolant system to see if there is a leak.

Clovis  the height or depth of the cap hole is 13/16 from seating lip to top.  my cap appears to be about that maybe a shade short so it seems to be a good fit,

For the sake of knowledge and information to anyone,

this morning, i took car to gym, but before i went i measure the opening as noted above, and noted the fluid level was very high, like under the lip, just below the overflow outlet.

i know for a true fact yesterday, at some point in between drives,, and the radiator was warm, not hot or not cold, just warm, i took off the cap and noted the level at a bout 3/4 to 1 inch below lip.

My question is,, does the fluid level move up and down depending on when you check  it, like when its been sitting all night?  As i dont really check my diesel truck that often, just a quick glance, into the overfill tank,  since this is gas, i feel it needs to be looked at.

ALSO,, oil still looks a light brown color.. so I'm hoping that isn't going to be a problem, coolant in oil.

I rented the unit,,, did a manual test,, pumped it to 13,,,, first time,, leaked out of three hoses.. and feel accordingly,

tightened up the hoses again, and pumped back to 13,, it held right there for about 10 to 15 minutes,, would that indicate i am ok on the HG leaks or do i need to do the engine on test as well.

Sincerely

well, i did the warm engine test as well.. pu the cap on, tightened it down.  turn on the engine. and waited,, it got up to temp  1/4 on the meter.  where it usually runs at.

the pressure gauge got up to and stayed at about 7 to 8 psi.  and pretty much stayed there,, no jumping, ups or downs, just stayed there.  so i figured that was stable, as much as i know about it,,  anyway, i shut it down,, and it climbed to about 9 to 10 as it cooled down,  never got up to the 13 range.  sat at the turned off a pressure, for a while and then started to come on down slowly.

SO i am hoping that these two test leave out the possibility of HG leak,,, i may change oil one more time, to get what was left from the last change, to make sure that all the color dye is over.

does it sound like this is where the car needs to be as far as cooling given the two test?

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
