My newly acquired '64 Coupe DeVille suffers from a cracked right side exhaust manifold.

It looks like my options are limited to rolling the dice on a used manifold, converting to headers or seeing if I can get the crack welded up.

I've done all three of these options on other vehicles with mixed results.  Really not a fan of headers and it looks like Sanderson is the only game in town and reviews are mixed.

Would really appreciate input from others who have dealt with this problem.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, I agree that finding a replacement is best.  The crack is large so I may have to attempt a repair until I can locate a manifold.

I hear you on getting it off without breaking bolts.  Fortunately in a former life I was a mechanic and worked in a shop that replaced many cracked manifolds so I got pretty adept at removing them without breaking bolts and occasionally removing broken bolts.  I'll let it soak in penetrating oil for a long time before attempting to remove.

Assuming I can get the RH exhaust manifold off without damaging it, I will start going down my Wait List. I currently have 5 customers looking for a 64 RH Exhaust Manifold, spanning back to 2015. Two of them are Chapter members and were only added this past year, but will get 1st dibbs. I can add  you to my Wait List if you like. Email me your contact info to jasonedge@nc.rr.com.  Join the CLC and then our free Chapter and you will bump ahead the other non-chapter members. To join the CLC go to www.cadillaclasalleclub.org/join

out of curiosity,,,, if you dont find a replacement, and the other options sound like a guess it il work at best,, what do you do then?   do you look for another engine?  i mean if none of your options work,  were does one go from there..

If all else fails, I'll have to go with headers.  Right now I'm hoping I'll find a decent used manifold.  Luckily(?) it's heading into rainy season here so I'll have time to work on options.  I was under the car today and see that the crack is almost completely encircling the manifold so I think welding is no longer an option.

I'm very interested, thanks John!

I assume '63 is different? If it can work, I have one available.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
