ok, i think i got the transmission pan leak done, took for 3 hour ride, and nothing has shown up on the street after about a 4 hour cool down, so hoping thats history,

while under car over last few days, i had chance to do a lot of cleaning, grease build up removal between parts, and general cleaning,,

i had mentioned in prior post, something was coming out of the inspection plate,, well, a little oil is coming out, not enough to stream back to the back of the plate, but, some

the other part that i was able to find some seepage, was at the connection between the inspection plate structure and the engine part right in front of the plate where it goes into that inspection plate structure, there are a couple of those long rubber nipples up in there and i can see some streaming coming down from that connection.  It was very dry and clean before i left as the car hasnt been moved for several days since i cleaned it all up.

anyway, given the above info,  and from my first nuisance leak post, i got this answer from Russ for the oil leaking from the inspection plate,

Engine oil in the trans inspection cover is a leaking engine rear main seal.

So im am guessing at a minimum, this is leaking and needs replacement,  would the leaking from the connection between the front of the inspection plate structure and place where the leaking is coming down from the rubber nipple area connection be that same rear main seal or is there an additional seal in there.

as for the repair(s) ,, is that an engine dismantle, transmission removal or can it be done with out removing the major structures there.

Sincerely

Kim

Kim. Do you have a shop manual? If so, look on page 9-29 Section 30 Rear Main Bearing Oil Seal Replacement. Instead of speculating on dismantling engines, removing transmissions, why not read and re-read the steps outlined in the Shop Manual, then come back and ask questions on what you do not understand.

will do,, thanks,,

From a time standpoint, assuming all goes well, and you know what you are doing,  and following manual from plug removal to exhast detachment and back again,  what would those who have done this, say in hours, to complete the rear main seal R and R.

  1. Leaks during operation.  Not so much during resting. I can see it traing down from the connection, then across the onspection plate.  Easy to see the trail because i had cleaned everything down.

Just replace the rear main seal. It is covered in the shop manual.   Just be sure to use the plastic guide that is included with the seal.

I orederd one fron ariz vintage parts,   best gasket was manuf

are there any blow ups or pictures of the seal or where the seal goes before i go diving into this seal replacement,,   i need a reference to know what i am looking for once i get in there.

i read about using the guide in prior post from 2012 on the site, but i dont have a visual reference..

i hate going into something completely blind.

also, the reading on the 2012 post on rear seals was primarily on the 429 engine. i.e., lining up the ends at offset, contact cement, etc.. do these same things hold true for the 63 engine?

Is there a gasket between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe,  ?

Never mind,    found it online through online 63 cadillax service manual

Do you have a shop manual? It is noted gaskets are used in it.

Hi, yes,  i was looking under engine mechanic.   The saw a heading for exhaust an fuel.  Found it there.  Orderd the exhaust gaskets today. I have the paper back, and found it the maual online as well.  Free! Can reference right from phone or computer if under car.

Kim have you looked on:

And scrolled down to:

Its some good info there.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
