Looking to add AC to my 64 series 62 coupe. With the help of Jason and Russ, I've been able to source and install all the OEM pulleys and brackets underhood as I'm attempting as close to NOS appearance as possible (using an A6 compressor). Of course that fan shroud still eludes me !
At first I thought I'd use an under dash unit but I really prefer a more NOS look. My dream would be a behind the dash unit that operates out of NOS vents which I'll be adding to the dash. Has anyone added behind the dash unit? Pitfalls? Recommendations?

All info Greatly appreciated.

Thanks Jorden

Jorden, I have a fan shroud. Fresh off the parts car I just brought in.

Have you looked at the hot rod heater/AC packages? They are a single piece unit that installs on the inside of the car. You would have to remove the inside ductworks.

Russ thanks for the reply and news of a shroud. I'm working with vintage air in an ac solution , was just curious who had what experience with what supplier. Let me know please how much the shroud is. My ship to zip is 11801.

Thanks again, jorden

Jorden, shoot me an email to discuss parts.

How did this work out? I've recently purchased a 64 series 62 as well with no a/c and as it's supposed to be around 110* all week here the car is basically undriveable without it.
I would think it would be easier to just get the vintage air system that does it all since mine never had the ac and doesn't have the controls and stuff for it. My heater doesn't work either so it would be a two bird with one stone thing. $1500 is rough but as it sits it's only drivable at night because of the heat.
The only stock a/c parts I would suggest installing are the mounts for the compressor. Anything else would be, let put this nicely, RETARDED. Sorry for my out burst but the amount of work and money to go original is almost unfathomable for a system that was finicky on a good day. Order your compressor, drier and expansion valve at rock auto. Get an under dash evaporator run a drain. You can also get a condenser at rock auto and the rubber mounts at "rubber the right way". Once you have all the parts installed take the car to an a/c shop and have them fabricate the lines and charge it. You'll have air for maybe a grand or a little more. Good luck.
Ok tony I'll give you that they were great when new. BUT after 50+ years they are a problem to say the least. Now try taking a 53 year old car and retrofit it back to an original a/c car. It can be done but at a big expense and a huge under taking. Again with 53 year old equipment. That's stuff for concourse restorations and putting an a/c in a non stock one isn't concourse (?) Anyway this is just my opinion and not everyone is the same.
Sooo... My suggestion would be to install a retrofit NEW system. The parts are all new so no messing around looking for problem. There is a reason manuals for our climate control systems have been produced.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
