Open the rubber boot in the passenger door jam ,check the wires inside the boot there might be a broken wire, or check the switch on the drivers door make sure the switch is not in the lockout position.just a couple ideas
Hi Ray, i know. The Driver side was totally damage. i need a wiring plan to check the window and other spocky things. my rear courtesy light is permanent on??? the front light is off if the door closed ;)
Wiring schematics are in the 1964 Cadillac Shop Manual. You can find originals, reprints and on CD on eBay and elsewhere. You can also get nice, large, laminated color version from Classic Car Wiring at https://classiccarwiring.com/
Kai
The wiring is color coated in the drivers door jam under the boot
Just rejoin the same color wires that are damaged
Some could be cracked or broken under its outside covering so look for that
You may have to insert new extra wire to join the broken ones to do the repair
Ordinary lamp wire can be used singly or doubled up to duplicate the old wires thickness
Solder and heat shrink are the best repair solution for any broken wiring for the long haul
Sure a lot will come back to life after the repair
With any electrical drain pull the neg terminal of the battery until you fix the problem
Enjoy

The door jam switches were a constant source of electrical problems for the circuit in the car that is always on ( under dash lights when door open - glove box - clock ) until I changed them for a more modern design
They are a very flimsy design —and just fall apart internally causing that circuit to fail to often
Hard to believe they lasted as long as they have with there poor design - about 30-35 years
One of Cadillacs major design flaws in my 64 ( very unlike Cadillac) but an easy switch replacement to a more modern door jam switch
Got replacement switches at Napa a local auto store in the USA
Solved a difficult and annoying constant electrical circuit out issue —— all better !
Enjoy
“my rear courtesy light is permanent on?”
Kurt noted in a prior post: (t)he switch for the rear interior lights is on the back of the front seat (center arm rest section of the seat). Could have been accidentally switched on. It's a simple on/off slide switch.
Hope this helps!
The very little ——-on - off switch —on the back —of the front bench seat (center top of the back —of the front seat ) is so the rear passenger can access the rear lighting when they need light
Good chance if you own one of our year Cadillac for long enough you will be wondering ——“why the hell are the rear courtesy lights on ——and won’t go off ?? “ mostly after wiping down the interior seats of the car
The switch ——is not labeled —-adding to the what’s going on moment —-that you may now never have because of this post
This was just something you needed to figure out for yourself before computers and this site was available for just the asking when having the problem
Enjoy
Thanks for the information, the saddler had the new cover over the switch pulled. ;)
Another reason the interior Courtney lights can stay on —is if the dimmer switch part of the headlight switch —-is turned until it stops at the end of its travel on one end
The center pull out of the headlight switch —can be turned left to right ( in a circle ) to control the dimness of the courtesy lights but will leave the lights on when at the end of that adjustment on one end of that travel - it kind of clicks in —at the end of its travel— so the driver can control the interior courtesy lights
So check that if the light are staying on
Enjoy

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.
There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…

Hi all,
I have a 63 series 62 convertible.
Thought it would be a good idea to make the fin lights flash as well as tail/stop lights.
They did this in 64 i believe.
i replaced single filiment bulb holder in fin lamp, to a twin filiment.
ran a wire from the tail/stop lights to this extra filiment in the fin light.
its the pink wire on the color diagram i have. purple on passenger side.
Any how, yes it works and looks great, during the…
