1964 sedan deville 4 door transmission speeds
How many speeds does a 1964 sedan deville 4 door have ? My column indicator only has P/R/N/D/L.
It is starting in first and shifting to second pretty smooth, but want to be sure there isn't an overdrive that it isn't shifting in to.
At 60mph it seems wound up pretty high.

The Turbo Hydramatic transmission used in the 1964 deVilles, Fleetwood 60 Special and Fleetwood Eldorado is a 3 speed transmission with 3 drive ranges. I will shift all three drive ranges when left in "D"rive. My notes indicated the shift points vary widely depending on the load put on the transmission, with 1st to 2nd occurring 10 to 50 mph, and 2nd to 3rd occurring at 20 to 80 mph. If you are driving under easy acceleration on flat surface it should occur at the lower mph ranges. Others may have more details on the overall operations.

Maybe I'm missing a shift feel.
Any idea and approximate rpm range if I'm hitting 3rd gear at 60 to 65 mph ?
Like i said....it seems wound kinda tight.

Install a temporary tachometer. Its pretty easy to do and I did it on my 62-series (4-speed HydroMatic) as I wanted to see the shifts. My gearbox shifts so smoothly its sometimes impossible to feel or hear. Going from 3 to 4 is so smooth its very hard to feel/hear, especially with windows down (my A/C-system is not operational).
I fitted the temporary tachometer below the dash close to the door on left side. It was in "knee height" and of course it made it a bit difficult to keep an eye on it, but I drove a few times on various speeds and recorded the rpm when the gearbox was shifting. Used a double sided tape as I didn't want to drill holes for the screws. Attaching the cables to the ignition coil, battery plus (ignition) and ground and you are good to go.

As Jason said, a 64 deVille has a 3 speed TH transmission but regardless the final drive ratio is 1:1. Here is another thread discussing RPM. There is a link to an RPM calculator. Plug in your tire height & gear axle ratio. https://6364cadillac.ning.com/forum/topics/rpm-at-70

I'm located in Melbourne, Australia and my 64 sedan de ville is stuck in the garage due to failed mechanical fuel pump.
