Hi All from the UK,
My family have had this car from new, bought in London!
This was a very reliable car driven all over Europe and even China. But then it was interfered with and I have been dealing problems ever since. Most of the drive train was rebuilt including engine and gearbox.
But given lots of time and money it has been running quite well and has done 3000 miles since the rebuild...
BUT it has just broken it 3rd Drive Plate!! Hairline crack in the central section.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be?
Thanks in Advance Hugh
If it is missing and Jason and Russ don't have one, you can make one yourself. None were available when I required one, so made this up and it seems fine. Not a perfect solution and not as robust as the original, but it only has to arrest flexing to be successful.
there is 1 broken bolt hole with no bolt on the starter motor housing....but i think this might be historic ie. prior to to drive train rebuild
also i remember on the day it broke, when cranked when cold it did make a strange crunching noise....it probablu went 60 miles later...
also at least 2 of the 3 (maybe all 3) breakages happened when i poked the accelorator (when fully in motion and engine fully warmed up)
see pic of broken bolthole taken a while ago....
You can put a metal washer -on the bolt that goes to the starters broken bolt hole to aid in stabilizing the starter when mounted
Nice job with the metal starter bracket design
Looks like your engine is upside down in the picture
OH Yea --i forgot you are in Austrailia !! --MATE PMSL ! ! !
