Hi Lonnie Again:

I also have 61 Cadillac that I am restoring. Does any one out there know where the vacuum hose goes, that comes from the vacuum that is located under the finder on the drivers side of the car. I have a 4B Rochester Carburetor, and the brake booster hose is in the back of it. So where does the vacuum go.

Find you car on line for sale —and study any engine bay picture on there and you may see what you are trying to find from those photos

I think a vacuum canister in that location can be for the vacuum door locks

Enjoy

I am not as familiar with the 61 Cadillacs but vacuum power door lock equipped cars are equipped with a vacuum storage tank on the left side near firewall as I recall. The vacuum line should feed through the firewall then to a remove valve that then feeds all the door locks and door lock actuators. There will be vacuum schematics in the 1961 Cadillac Shop manual.  If restoring the car, a shop manual should be the 1st purchase you make. It will also have details about the vacuum for the AC, Park Brake, Idle speed-up control (AC cars), etc.

Lonnie,  Does your doors have vacuum locks?  I can send photos of a non vacuum door locks engine bay.  Would that help? And yes you must have a manual for this car. Their is a vacuum section that show the system.

Yes I think so! Please send.

Lonnie

Yes! my doors have vacuum looks. And the  vacuum canister is located on the passenger side,  under the left finder. I would like to know, what does the vacuum line connects from the canister hose.

Lonnie: Thank You, you may email me at lonniemoore05@outlook.com to save me some time from looking through all the blogs on the Forums.

Thanks again; Lonnie

Vacuum Canister for door locks on 63/64 under the LH fender feeds two direction:
- straight over to vacuum nipple off intake
- thru firewall and over to the vacuum door lock remote control valve.

Trunk Open and Lock Mechanism is in Closed Position

Posted by Chris Anderson on September 13, 2022 at 7:14pm 7 Comments

While working on my trunk lock on 64 Cadillac, I mistakenly closed the locking mechanism while the trunk was open.  Is there an easy way to manually release the lock back to the open position?

Thanks.

Fuel Pump Failure

Posted by Jon Shields on August 6, 2022 at 6:48am 3 Comments

Hello,

I'm located in Melbourne, Australia and my 64 sedan de ville is stuck in the garage due to failed mechanical fuel pump. The first after market mechanical fuel pump lasted a few years before it failed & left me stranded 5 hours from home. A hire car and tow got us home. On inspection, I noticed a valve not seated within the housing. I was optimistic, pressed it into place and assumed the pump was good to go. But alas, no. From what I can now determine, the diaphragm pushrod…
