I have a 63 cadillac and I took it to a mechanic for a motor tune up long story short the fuel pump gave out and hes tried twice to order it and he says it didnt fit the original pump is smaller on the round part then the one they sent him but I dont know why is it bigger ?so when he goes to put it on it hits the motor he wants to go with an electric fuel pump but I dont want electric anyone out there know why we keep getting the wrong pump?

Thats a cast in flange.
The engine mount looks weird, the bracket is mounted on wrong side.
Motor Mount goes behind the engine mounting flanges on left driver side and in front of the engine mounting flanges on the right passenger side. Looks like you got it in front on the left driver side.
Maybe a stupid question but, does your mechanic understand the he needs to turn the engine so that the cam is right position to get the pump in? They don’t normally slide right in, it takes a little fiddling.
Hi Daniel
The heavy spring on the fuel pumps arm will make it impossible to blot the new pump in ——if the engines cam ( which the pumps arm rides on ) is not in the right location when bolting the fuel pump in your engine block
Need to rotate the engine until you can get the arm into the block as much as is possible and then bolt it in
Just to help clarify what Phil is pointing out which could be the issue
Most fuel pumps today are located in the fuel tank with fuel injection engines so some young mechanics may not have any experience installing this type pump into an engine
Hope that is the simple solution to your fuel pump installation issue
It seems very odd to me that a fuel pump would suddenly go bad while a mechanic is working on a car to be doing a tune up ( odds are slim to none )
That leaves open the possibility the mechanic is hitting you up for an additional repair you do not need so consider using caution with him moving forward
His skills would be in question to me regarding this fuel pump repair — if you needed it at all
These kind of issues are constantly in question when dealing with mechanics and car repairs which makes the process very frustrating relying on expensive shops to do the right thing for you and your pride and joy
Enjoy

I found a diagram that illustrates the main factor in determining a spark plug heat range that I was trying to describe to you during the chapter get together.
Here it is:
The main factor is the length of the ceramic insulator from the middle of the spark plug to the tip (where the spark happens)
The insulator…

Good Morning all!
I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…
