Hello,

My 63 series-62 started and ran great up until about 9 months ago.  I was cranking it as usual, and on maybe the 4th attempt, all the sudden it went completely silent. Not a single noise when attempting to crank, no sign of life whatsoever.

Turns out, the cause of this was the Neutral Safety Switch.  I jumped the purple and blue NSS wires together, and then I was able to start the car and get it running!

Thanks!

Part 2. I ordered a new cranking harness from Jason, because in diagnosing, I noticed mine was melted behind the ignition switch. I had questions about where each part of the harness connects to.

I have the shop manual, and I look at the starting circuit diagram, and for the most part it makes sense, I just wish they included the color and gauge of each wire in the diagram, that would make things so much easier.

Then, Anders pointed me to a giant color coded wiring diagram which I've just ordered, and that should get me going: https://www.classiccarwiring.com/1963-cadillac-color-wiring-diagram/

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Now I just need to find or figure out how to repair the NSS.

3 years ago I bought a wiring diagram (the largest version). I'm very satisfied with it.

The supplier is listed on our "Parts Suppliers" list.

Here is a direct link for your car:

Thanks, that is awesome, original factory wire colors! I am ordering this now.

Check the NSS to see if it is letting 12V go through it to the starter.  You can always jump the 2 wires together, but that disables the safety feature.

That wiring diagram is a very nice thing to have

Enjoy

Anybody know of something similar for a vacuum diagram? That'd also be nice.

Should be in the help tab up top.

V.I.N. where?

Posted by Robert Pellow on April 18, 2021 at 1:41pm 6 Comments

Where can I find the V.I.N. on a 63 convertible?  The usual space at the base of the interior windshield on the driver's side has been decimated by weather.

63 Trunk detail

Jason, I liked the detail and information you have provided. I would like to do mine similar to yours. Can you help? Do you have trunk material? OPGI is sending the trunk product for my 63 Fleetwood. But it does cover the entire trunk as yours was done. If you do not have can you give me a reference? Thanks!! Bob

Car lift and jack stands

Posted by Les Eastling on March 23, 2021 at 10:00am 4 Comments

I mentioned during the 63/64 chapter zoom meeting on 3/21 that we had installed a car lift in our garage. Someone asked what kind and I didn't have the info at hand, so here is a link to it and also a link to some tall jack stands we use to add more stability to the car and an additional safety factor. There is something about getting underneath one of these cars that makes me a little nervous! …
