Hi, thanks for letting me join. I recently purchased a 64 coupe de ville with the intention to airbag it and have a fun cruiser. Looks to be an early production car (503) and pretty well optioned. It may also be very low mileage ~10k miles. Car runs and drives well, just took it on a 1400 mile road trip. Is this a car that should be saved and transitioned more to a show/survivor vehicle or is it of low enough significance to use and enjoy?
Thanks for your advice.

If truly 10K miles, I'd leave it alone. I'm not a car collector myself but have been around enough to know they seek out low mileage, highly optioned cars. There are plenty of other good candidates out there to customize & drive. With all that said, enjoy your car however you want to.

Yeah I think that’s what I’m going to end up doing. Had no clue this was an early and low mileage car when I bought it. I’m going to clean it up a bit, enjoy it and then see about selling and getting one that’s more appropriate to modify.

Agree with Kurt!

Check the brake peddle for wear as Jason suggests to establish ball park real mileage

The photos do look like your Cadillac is a low milage car

It looks great in the photos

If your Cadillac is very low milage it does kick the Cadillacs value way up in  it’s original condition

That is what a collector is looking for

I do agree with Jason and Kurt as to the direction I would go with your ride but your car to do as you choose

I cannot remember any Cadillac in our years with that low a milage since on our sites  daily since 2006

Keep us posted on your future plans

Enjoy

Thank you. I’ll take some more pictures when I get home. I was working on it earlier today, throttle, brake and parking brake all look nearly new. Bright chrome, well defined lines on the rubber. I also pulled up the floor mat and carpet looks brand new. I’m new to these cars, is there any areas to look at closely? I can say when we drove it home it felt like a new car. Steering had no play, suspension was not wallowing.

Dash seems to be in great condition. Twilight sentinel works, has the auto high beam dimmer as well, but that doesn’t seem to be consistent.

Not sure you can do anything to make your 64 Cadillac ride better than it does with its stock suspension working as intended

IT rides like a Cadillac  !! —-applies here !

My own opinion is that the 63-64 Cadillac are the two best riding Cadillacs that Cadillac has ever made having owned a number of other years

There large size has a lot to do with there ride quality

I do get how good these land yachts look with rims and laying flat out —at shows

Can  I suggest you use the car for a while and experience the reaction you will get from people everywhere you show up with your fine Cadillac

The experience has been priceless to me  since my 64 convert came off the showroom floor and has been the keeper for me all these years

A lot of my opinion expressed here

Loving what you own is the key ( to a 64 Cadillac - if you will )

Enjoy

Absolutely agree with you. I’ve only had it for a week but already love it. The 1400 mile trip back to California was phenomenal and incredibly comfortable.

Just to add if the mileage is accurate and a very low mileage car that brake pedal should be showing very little wear. Check out this ramble for a visual: Click Here

I would leave it stock.... that car deserves better than 4 fun bags all round.

Trunk Open and Lock Mechanism is in Closed Position

Posted by Chris Anderson on September 13, 2022 at 7:14pm 7 Comments

While working on my trunk lock on 64 Cadillac, I mistakenly closed the locking mechanism while the trunk was open.  Is there an easy way to manually release the lock back to the open position?

Thanks.

Fuel Pump Failure

Posted by Jon Shields on August 6, 2022 at 6:48am 4 Comments

Hello,

I'm located in Melbourne, Australia and my 64 sedan de ville is stuck in the garage due to failed mechanical fuel pump. The first after market mechanical fuel pump lasted a few years before it failed & left me stranded 5 hours from home. A hire car and tow got us home. On inspection, I noticed a valve not seated within the housing. I was optimistic, pressed it into place and assumed the pump was good to go. But alas, no. From what I can now determine, the diaphragm pushrod…

Renovation project 1964 Cadillac Deville convertible

Introduction

To achieve an excellent result of vehicle restoration, it is essential to  manage this task as one manages an industrial project.
