Has anyone ever used Dixie Exhaust Works for an exhaust system ? I e-mailed them and their answers were quick, definitive and reasonably priced. They advised me the exhaust would be ready to ship with 2-3 working days. Thanks in advance

First I have heard of Dixie Exhaust Works on this site myself

eBay has been a good source for some

Our year Cadillacs have a very long flat stock muffler ( 2 - 2 1/2 feet long and thin ) and is necessary for correct ground clearance and noise reduction with our large cu in engines if you want your Cadillac to be quiet

You will not find that muffler available  in exhaust shops these days

The resonator at the back of the exhaust adds to that quiet quality but will be the first part of the exhaust to rust out early on

Having owned a number of Cadillac years and realizing that I have not used the rear resonator on my 64 for over 35 years for that reason

I have kept my steel exhaust system solid for over 35 years by running the car at least a half hour every time it is started

That is the time all the  water moisture comes out of the engine and running it for that time burns off all the internal moisture in the  exhaust pipes

Exhaust system rust from the inside out - not from the outside in

Acquiring the correct muffler and having a shop or yourself do the installation  will get you to the correct stock exhaust system for our Cadillacs

Exhaust work is something I choose to have done by a shop myself after a number of attempts over my lifetime

The overall consensus on this site is that the  —-stock single exhaust is the better choice for our year Cadillacs

Jason had dual exhaust and performance mufflers  on his CDV and went back to a single exhaust after a period of time

If dual exhaust is your thing—- I suggest you exit the exhaust pipes just behind the rear tires ( never under the car ) as the location of the gas tank in our cars cause an issue with straight pipes out the back which is a look some like as do I

The stainless steel option will make for a noisier exhaust as the pipes are a thinner material than the steel

( thank you for that Russ )

That info should help you get your system right for your  own needs

Enjoy

I just sent Dixie an email to verify as to how long and thick the muffler they're providing will be. I'll forward that info

Tony, Dixie Muffler Works replied and advised me the stock measurement of an original is 3.5" x 8" and a 25" body length. The muffler he would send is 4"x9" with the stock length of 25". According to what he is providing I'll only lose 1/4" ground clearance provided the inlet and outlets are in the center of the muffler.

The Muffler Measurements sure sounds close enough to  stock to work as it should

A picture might confirm where the muffler inlet and exit are located if needed

This is the kind of muffler you want if you like your Cadillac stock and quiet which is my own choice

There is always a bit of a rumble from theses older big cu in engines that I myself do enjoy over the much different sound of  the newer quiet engines they build today

Big cu in engines in our Cadillacs are from a unique time in history  in America and the reason we gravitate to be restoring and driving these cars for the special driving experience they afford the owner

I have been taking my car to the gym and half the gym is outside looking and hanging around the car

My 64 convertible “ Has style and looks —-that stops people in their  tracks —and  that is hard to beat ! “

Enjoy

10/4 ! I even experience that with my 4dr, 62 series

Lower Front End Ball Joints

Posted by Logan Robb on May 11, 2023 at 9:04am 7 Comments

Good Morning all!

I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…

1964 power steering sector rebuild

Posted by CHRIS CARLSON on March 20, 2023 at 11:32pm 3 Comments

I'm having my steering sector rebuilt, and considering changing it from 20-1 ratio 4.2 turns lock to lock to 3.5 turns lock to lock @ 16-1 ratio, If i change from a 3 1/4" box to a 3" box i could have a 14-1 Ratio steering response would be faster, shorter distance to turn the wheel to get a response,   has anyone done this? and how do you like it? thank you
