Hello,

Sealing  up my 63 Jetaway duel coupling and questioning the drain plug and the speedo bullet, both used an o ring for sealing. This does not seam proper as the o ring gets crushed when torqueing. And my $86.00 seal kit did not come with any alternative. What is the proper seal for the drain plug and speedo bullet to case? I'm thinking a copper ring would be most practical. Also, what type of modern trany fluid do we use in these units?

Thank you,

Pete

Use the O ring. The speedo bullet is designed to tighten up against the casing. A copper seal will move the bullet out and the gears will not mesh correctly.

Same with the drain, use what is recommended. The drain plug should have a machined area for the seal to rest in.

Yes I noticed the machined groove in the drain plug, but when I torque it down the o ring squeezes out and rips.  I will take closer look maybe I got the wrong O ring.

Thanks Russ.

The O ring will sit snug into the machined groove. You will need to roll the O ring over the threads into the groove.
