Question: would a 64 Coupe Deville originally be equipped with cut pile carpet or nylon loop? Looking to replace me carpet, but the carpet on the lower rear front seat seems to be cut pile. I prefer the loop look, but I'm trying to keep it original looking. Any discussion?

Scroll through the Help tab to "- Carpets Used in 1963 & 1964 Cadillacs "

The 62 Series cars got the cheaper loop type. The deVilles and up got cut pile.

I've never been able to find a source making the exact Tremont style cut pile we need.

Has anyone here?

I tried for quite some time to find cut pile carpet for my 64 Sedan De Ville and could not find anything. My carpet was not worn but it did have stains. So, I took it out had it cleaned. There is someone here in CT that does leather and vinyl repair and dye work, so he came out and dyed the carpet matching the color perfectly to one of the kicks. That was 10 years ago, and it still looks great.

I got my carpeting for my 64 convert ( cut pile ) on eBay a long time ago

I had the rubber backing added that is optional to the backing for noise reduction and moisture protection

Got the mats to match the carpet with the Cadillac logo placed on them

A very nice look

They will send you a sample of the carpet to confirm style and color

At that time I remember the carpeting being a perfect fit and seemed inexpensive for the item

I think it was under $200 then  —-but was long ago

Enjoy

Lower Front End Ball Joints

Good Morning all!

I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…

1964 power steering sector rebuild

Posted by CHRIS CARLSON on March 20, 2023 at 11:32pm 3 Comments

I'm having my steering sector rebuilt, and considering changing it from 20-1 ratio 4.2 turns lock to lock to 3.5 turns lock to lock @ 16-1 ratio, If i change from a 3 1/4" box to a 3" box i could have a 14-1 Ratio steering response would be faster, shorter distance to turn the wheel to get a response,   has anyone done this? and how do you like it? thank you

I've looked at the usual rubber sources but couldn't find any.
