Well I finally located a nice front fender side(belt line) trim molding to replace the beat up one on the passenger side of our 64 Convertible.

Question is:: how do I remove the existing trim piece from the rear of the wheel well to the front edge of the door. I assume the fasteners are original- but?

Are these attached to spring clips, if so do I get to them from under OR over the trim. Are there nuts on the other side? etc.

The shop manual that I have on page 16-82 shows typical attachment methods, but I do not see which one(s) apply to the 6267 body style.

Like to get a good idea before scratching the fender paint etc.

Thanks

Tom

PS:  Jason you can take my name off your wait list for this trim piece.

Remove the door hinge covers to access hex speed nuts at the rear. If you need new fasteners/clips I sell nice new studded fasteners, with bonded washers and nylon lock nut for $3 each faster/washer/nut as seen below.

Jason,

Are there more of THAT style going forward to the wheel opening to?

I already bought a full set of fasteners from you to do all the exterior trim.

Thanks

Tom

There are T shaped stainless fasteners that slide into the lower side trim groove at the wheel well opening to the front. (see picture below). A 5/16" hex head screw goes thru from the bottom into flat speed nuts above.   The stainless T shaped fasteners hold up very well and have found when customers need them it is usually because they have simply been lost and not because of condition. I  am out of these but can put you on my Wait List if you need them. The fastener in the picture above is what I sell as part of the lower side trim set so you should have what you need for the front fender rear section. You just need to remove the two 5/16" hex head screws that hold the door hinge cover on to access inside the rear of the fender.

Jason,

That's what I needed to know. I have more than enough of those T shaped fasteners. Once I get both fender trim strips replaced, I can offer the extras for someone who needs them

I needed to know what held on the trim from the rear of the wheel opening to the front edge of the door.

Thx

Tom

Spark Plug Heat Range

I found a diagram that illustrates the main factor in determining a spark plug heat range that I was trying to describe to you during the chapter get together.

Here it is:

The main factor is the length of the ceramic insulator from the middle of the spark plug to the tip (where the spark happens)

The insulator…

Lower Front End Ball Joints

Posted by Logan Robb on May 11, 2023 at 9:04am 7 Comments

Good Morning all!

I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…
