Hi everyone,

I'm in the midst of diagnosing two fuel gauge problems. Originally it would only read half full after filling up.

After replacing it with a recalibrated gauge, now the needle bounces like crazy all over the place when the car is moving.

I'm assuming there's some sort of chafed ground somewhere - the tank and sender are brand new, sender was bench-tested. The fuel gauge is also recalibrated.

Any ideas on places to look very closely?

Thanks!

Hi Ken,

How about the ground wire off the gauge, that runs to the rear of the car with a bolt on the rear frame.  It is near/under the license plater cover.  Make sure it is cleaned and tight.  Take a look at it.

I was so confident that wasn’t it…until I looked closer and realized the screw wasn’t holding the ground tight to the metal. I switched to a traditional nut and bolt and bam! Rock steady.

Thanks Dennis!

Hi Ken,

Very glad that it worked for you.  That is usually the culprit - good work on your part that you fixed it!

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
