I've a '63 series 62. My car has a guide matic automatic headlight dimmer.

About 5 to 10 minuets after activating the high beams all the lights start flashing on and off. I do have the right dimmer switch. Anybody know what could be causing this problem? I'm also using halogen bulbs for my high beams.

Thanks,

Kevin

I haven't done a deep dive into this issue has some have but I was ask if you are running Halogens or other newer aftermarket lights that are drawing a lot of current and is the headlight switch getting hot?  If running aftermarket (e.g. Halogens) you might need to got a relay setup to feed a low current to the headlight switch to control the high current draw of aftermarket lights. I think Russ Austin and maybe others here sell a relay setup. If you lights are all stock, it might just be headlight switch going bad.  I have a good 63 headlight switch for $50 from a work running car if you think that is the issue.

Just to add, if the lights just start getting dim or randomly not coming on, especially on one side and the bulb is good, the left and right forward lamp harness grounds that attached to frame right in front of the radiator support might not be biting into the metal and getting a good ground. Regardless it is always a good idea to check, cleaned and reinstall this (and all ) grounds.

Here is a picture of that left side ground. There is a right side feed in similar relative location on right side.

Yes, I'm running halogen lights in the high beams. And yes the headlight switch gets very hot

Thanks,

Kevin.

Jason I will take the headlight switch for $50.00

Kevin, Shoot me an email to jasonedge@nc.rr.com and I will get you a total with shipping and payment info.
Jason.

Kevin, the halogen headlights are drawing too much current for the headlight switch. The switch circuit breaker is work, or there are some bad connections somewhere in the system causing high resistance.

I carry a headlight relay wire harness that is a plug and play setup. The headlight draw power from the battery, instead of the headlight switch. The headlights and dash lights are brighter as a result.

Price is 70.00 plus shipping.  Please email me at russ@thecadishack.com

Lower Front End Ball Joints

Posted by Logan Robb on May 11, 2023 at 9:04am 7 Comments

Good Morning all!

I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…

1964 power steering sector rebuild

Posted by CHRIS CARLSON on March 20, 2023 at 11:32pm 3 Comments

I'm having my steering sector rebuilt, and considering changing it from 20-1 ratio 4.2 turns lock to lock to 3.5 turns lock to lock @ 16-1 ratio, If i change from a 3 1/4" box to a 3" box i could have a 14-1 Ratio steering response would be faster, shorter distance to turn the wheel to get a response,   has anyone done this? and how do you like it? thank you
