Can anyone advise the best way to install the wheel covers on my 64 deville?  Getting them off is hard, but do-able.  But getting them back on is tough.  I mean really tough!  I saw a technique online where a guy positions the car where he can sit down with his back against a wall (inside garage or outside the house or something) and then uses his 2 feet with a soft pair of running shoes to hammer them on.  I tried that last night and that really didn't even work.  I've only been able to take a 2x4 with some rubber on the end where it will contact the hubcap, and whack the other end of the 2x4  with a 2-1/2 lb hammer, using the 2x4 profile to distribute the force to avoid denting.  I dread checking brakes, bleeding brakes, anything where I have to take the wheels off.

Please help!

Buy a good rubber mallet ,try Harbor freight….

They make a combo hubcap puller and rubber mallet. On Amazon.

Thinner blade means less damage to the rim.

Be sure the teeth of the hubcaps are lined up and not working against you bending them to aline them if needed

Clean the rim surface and put a  very light coating of white grease on the rim to help them slide in place

Never lost a cap doing that - they stay on

Use a rubber mallet to smack the cap on as Ray has suggested

I think the rubber mallet is the key

I Use the tire iron  or very large screwdriver to remove the caps

Prep the rim surface by smoothing it if required ( rusted or very rough surface )

These caps are unique in there ability to bite into the rim and stay in place once installed making there removal more difficult than most other caps

Do you have the CAX style wheel weights that allow the hubcaps a gap so that they can hook properly? Here's a link to some for sale on eBay so you can get an idea what they look like.

Fuel Pump Failure

I'm located in Melbourne, Australia and my 64 sedan de ville is stuck in the garage due to failed mechanical fuel pump. The first after market mechanical fuel pump lasted a few years before it failed & left me stranded 5 hours from home. A hire car and tow got us home. On inspection, I noticed a valve not seated within the housing. I was optimistic, pressed it into place and assumed the pump was good to go. But alas, no. From what I can now determine, the diaphragm pushrod…

I need to replace the bulbs for the speedometer cluster in my instrument panel..

Before I open up the dash, I want to have the necessary bulbs on hand.
