I've got my Rochester carb rebuilt 3 years ago but seems like the accelerator pump got eaten through and gas is coming out of it and being poured on the engine.

I was told to switch the accelerator pump for the leather one!

Does anybody have any experience with leather accelerator pumps ???

Sincerely
Mack

They will work fine ,as long as they are installed correctly
All accelerator pumps must move freely in it cyclinder ,and not get kinked

Leather is/was the preferred choice. The cheaper rubber cups became the norm.  You could see if a deathanol friendly rubber cup is available.

All I have ever used in my carter AFB is the leather pump.

Mack,  can you share with me where you sourced the correct leather pump?

Edelbrock SB your source for a new replacement accelerater pumps for the Carter or Edelbrock carbs
They are basicly the very same carb --as Edelbrock bought the rights to manufacture the Carter carb
There is a slight difference in the size of the carbs total venture area ( total carb top opening is slightly larger than the Carter )
The stock air cleaner will require an adapter if using it -- or use a replacement after market air cleaner for improved air flow to the carb

Enjoy

Thanks guys!  I actually have the Rochester carb (should have mentioned that).  I wonder if the leather pump will work on the Roch........I'll call and ask.

I'm also trying to drill out the choke tube of my intake manifold.  I purchased a new choke tube from Chip on Ebay, but I also need the spiral piece that fits inside the tube.  Any ideas where I can source that?  I emailed Chip as well and waiting to hear back.

I remember seeing one somewhere in the parts shed.   Email me and I will locate it.   russ85747@hotmail.com

I do not know the carb you have very well myself so someone with more experience with that carb should chime in

The leather accelerator pump— I know —was for the original Carter carb from my own experience

The way  that carb came from the factory

Lower Front End Ball Joints

Posted by Logan Robb on May 11, 2023 at 9:04am 7 Comments

Good Morning all!

I took the 64 into the shop to have some adjustments completed and in the process decided to have the lower ball joints replaced as was recommended the last time I had it in. I ordered the parts and came into the shop. They quoted me nearly $500 to replace those lower ball joints requiring nearly 4hrs of labor. Now this is a reputable shop and they know me by name here and they will continue to get my business. I am just questioning what on earth is…

1964 power steering sector rebuild

Posted by CHRIS CARLSON on March 20, 2023 at 11:32pm 3 Comments

I'm having my steering sector rebuilt, and considering changing it from 20-1 ratio 4.2 turns lock to lock to 3.5 turns lock to lock @ 16-1 ratio, If i change from a 3 1/4" box to a 3" box i could have a 14-1 Ratio steering response would be faster, shorter distance to turn the wheel to get a response,   has anyone done this? and how do you like it? thank you

I've looked at the usual rubber sources but couldn't find any.
